I received my new Inspiron 8600 at the end of November 2003. I was really pleased with it, I have always had good luck with computers. I guess it has run out. My 'new' laptop is sitting in front of me with a white screen that has grey and coloured vertical lines running through it. I am having to use an external monitor. Tech help can only suggest returning the laptop to them.
Anybody else have this problem and a solution.
I had this problem when I got my 8600 back in the fall. Tech support had me reset the connection for the screen (under the blue plastic cover above the keyboard - where "INSPIRON 8600" is printed). Solved the problem... No need for a return. Would not do this without tech supports guidance however. Not sure how it would affect the warranty...
Messing around with the innards of your computer shouldn't affect your warranty, except that any damage that you cause wouldn't be covered by your warranty. I'm not sure if this still applies if you were to re-seat the flex cable on the advice of Dell, though.
Tricia, if you're not comfortable opening up your machine, you might want to bite the bullet and send in your laptop. Note that you can keep track of your repair online, or by posting on the Customer Care - Service Call status forum, where the mods will look up what's happening with your computer.
If you do want to give it a shot, this is the info you'd need:
I have further evaluated the condition. I had my son play Call of Duty all day yesterday. The difference. I insured the unit was placed on a table instead of on the lap. It might just be that my problem resulted from impairing the air flow by placing the laptop on my lap.

Also, download the latest drivers for your hardware. It may fix the issue with the crashing in Call of Duty.
