Hi Sai

I have basically scanned up the laptop and found that it is fitted with an "Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN MiniCard" Wireless device and so i got it from other laptop model's device drivers support page.

you can download this driver by clicking this link http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/Dell_multi-device_A17_R174291.exe

so, like this i was able to get the drivers for chipset, Graphics, LAN. These drivers are perfectly working.

But, i was unable to get the Audio drivers & Dell Notebook system software device drivers for the Windows XP os.

The audo device fitted into our INSPIRON 1318 is an IDT STAC9228 Audio thing. I searched out wholde DELL drivers site for the windows xp drivers and found nothing.

i dont know whether dell research and dev team help us out with the drivers issue. really, I am not interested to use this VISTA thing on my laptop.

if u find any solution, please tell me.

Regards

Hari Prasad

Hari,

Two other models that have a Sigmatel STAC9228 audio chip are the Inspiron 1525 and the XPS M1330. IDT owns Sigmatel so it is probably the same chip, but that doesn't mean that the driver will run on your model.

As far as the Notebook System software, if you can't find it you might be able to get by without it.

Jimco,

Thanks for the response and suggestion.

unfortunately, the SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio driver you suggested from Inspiron 1525 model isn't working. Its saying that the device is not present.

I got the video drivers and i really need the audio drivers so that i can use the Windows XP. I am not at all interested to use the vista. if i can't get the windows xp drivers, then, this INSPIRON 1318 is purely a waste thing for me.

regards

hari

Well, it is possible that Dell will someday start releasing XP drivers for your model but don't count on it. Their official policy is to only support the OS they preinstalled ... and they aren't installing XP anymore at all. If you plan to return it be aware of the 21 day limitation and the restocking fee.

Jim

PS Gateway has some IDT XP drivers you could try. But the audio driver isn't the only problem ... if the Intel chipset driver isn't the right one then you will get the  "device is not present" error when you try to install the IDT driver even if it is the right one.

Thanks for the response.

I have searched this forum and found someone has same problem like me. He got a solution in this way

The list of required Vista drivers for the Inspiron 1318, in the order they should be installed, are:

Dell™ Notebook System Software
Intel® Mobile Chipset Driver
Mobile Intel® GMA X3100 Video Controller
Ricoh® R5C833 Media Card Controller
Broadcom® 59XX 10/100 Integrated Network Controller
Wireless driver (if applicable)
IDT STAC 9205 Audio Driver

here, the top listed driver is the Dell Notebook system software. But this driver is provided for windows vista only. is it possible to get Dell Notebook system software driver for Windows XP?

Sure, it is available on the the XP download pages of all models where Dell supports XP. Obviously that does not include the 1318. However in most cases the NSS is not vital, but the chipset driver is.

hey guys,  After spending most of the day lookin for a solution..I found one that worked for my Inspiron 1318 that I changed to xp.  I first downloaded and installed the current chipset from Intels site:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/download.aspx?url=/16023/a08/infinst_autol.exe&DwnldId=16023&ProductID=816&lang=eng

and then I saw someone post this download...and it worked!!!!

http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R153908.EXE

I usually don't post (this is my first), but I thought this was one find worth sharing..
