Try this, if you can get it to install

Microsoft® Windows® Installer

If it doesn't install, do you have the Operating System disks that came with your Dell computer?

Click below any of my posts and request a backup disk. Will only take a few days to get there. Then try this.

Insert the disk and restart your computer.

Press any key to boot from the cd.

Choose install.

Do the agreement.

Now choose repair. Let it do it's own thing. You will see a Welcome screen when it's finished.

Now make sure to go to drivers and downloads, download and install these drivers in this order.

Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card

Make sure to get all the Windows Updates again. I use the custom ones, also.

Asking questions is NOT dangerous. Doing things first and then asking questions, can be. :smileywink:

Try this before you do anything else. This is a known issue.

Validate Windows again here.

Re-register the Windows Update DLL with the commands below

Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

Attempt to run Windows Update

Now what happens?

my win update runs ok.I val win and it came back ok,,I val office, and it said ,"no office on this computer"?

the only updates that fail were directed to office 2007..apparently,I don't have any office program?Do u think that is why MSPP is not able to load?,,Is MSPP a part of an OFFICE program?thanks

PowerPoint 2007 is a viewer I gave you the download for. PowerPoint is a Microsoft Office product but the program I gave you is FREE for you to view the PowerPoint Presentation.

Let's do a little recap.

You're using XP and everything, including Windows Updates are working. Did you try going to Windows Updates and download the custom updates? net framework is needed to run some programs. I have all the custom updates except, messenger,Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Search.

The 3 updates that failed were to do with the PowerPoint Viewer 2007, I just got the updates. Checking into something. Will post back.

Ok, here's what I got. I restarted my computer. everything that's there is installed. Went to Windows Updates and nothing is there to be downloaded, except a root certificate, which I took. Everything is installed. Tried Belarc Advisor and everything is installed. I even looked at Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2007 with Secunia(FREE) and it show it's up to date. Even if the 3 updates failed, everything is up to date. I even look at review update history at Microsoft Windows Updates and it never showed up as failed.

Did these programs install for you?

While you're waiting for the disk, try this.(Do this when you're not going to be using the computer for a while.)

Start, run or hit the Windows Key and the R Key at the same time.

type

chkdsk /r     (space between the k and /)

hit enter

answer with a y

Restart your computer. Windows will check and repair any errors in your system.

You don't need Office to run the viewer.

Try this.

Un-intsall the powerpoint viewer, if it installed.

Restart your computer.

Download and install this version PowerPoint 2003.

What happens?

Hi,ok,we started this dialog because I cannot load the mspp viewer.it runs& comes back from the windows installer saying the patch package could not be opened. After checking,it appears I do not have an office program on my computer. The updates that fail to update are all directed to 2007msoffice system.(I don't have),,The updates(kb951944,kb954038,kb954326),all are related to MSoffice.I ran the disc check, everything came back CLEAN.As I said, could the download for mspp viewer need an office program to work?&I do appreciate all your time.

When I get the reinstall cd operating system for my original machine,it will be xp2.I'm already at xp3.and won't that loose everything else and all the add-ons that I've put on my computer since the beginning?thanks
