Welcome to the Forum :smileyhappy:

It might be trying to download and install updates. Check your settings and disable it for awhile.

Good Luck.

Also, initially indexing wikll take up some proc cycles for the first few days.

Load the Task Manager and watch the Process Tab to see what processes may be using a lot of time. Make sure the CPU(Time) column is selected so that you can see what the total amount of time any process uses.

I understand the processor usage on a new pc but when you boot to media direct, the laptop should not run the movies like slow motion. That is telling me its OS or processor correct?

I am going to do a restore tomorrow just to see.

I am not sure how reliable these SSD drives are. I hear good things but never experianced goods and bads with it.

Thanks.

Mike

An interesting video on SSD vs HDD:

Slow performance is not normal.

Booting into Media Direct uses a subset of Vista as the OS. Download a copy of a CPU Utilization program to the Side Bar (one that lists actual CPU speed) to confirm the CPU is running at full speed. However, even when at 0.8 Ghz, my M1530 operates just as fast as it does at 2 Ghz; the higher speed is not needed for many operations.

You may have damaged the OS somehow. Try doing a restore to the earliest Restore Point you have to see what happens. If no help, do an F8 at boot and do a Start-up Repair. If no help, then do a repair install at F8; this will go back to the factory state of the OS. If no help, call Dell and ask for a replacement.

Wonder why they didn't compare disk write? The SSD may have been a little weak. The rest of the testing was impressive.

Good deal!

Extended warranty is a smart move with laptops because of the (normal) higher failure rate than for desktops. I have 5 yrs plus accidental damage with my M1530. Hope it fails at about 4 1/2 years so I can geta new one!!!
