Latitude d600 will not turn on with battery in

Question

This is an older laptop that we ahd at work that was being phased out, so I got it. It has been fine for the most part with exception to about an hour battery life...no biggie, I could tweak that. In the past week though, the laptop will not power up with the battery in at all. the power button does nothing. If the external power supply is plugged in, you get the power light,then the drive gets accessed & then nothing. If you remove the battery & keep the ac plugged in, it will power up & run normally. The meter on the battery shows full charge. Does anyone have any Ideas? A laptop that cant be mobile is pretty much useless.

Replace the battery with a new one.

I thought that but the meter reading full on the battery threw me. I was worried it might actually be worse, like a mobo...A battery is a much cheaper solution. Thanks!

It still could be - the battery is the place to start, though.

If you stick in the battery, stick in the power supply and then boot up. And _then_ you remove the power supply, will the laptop continue to run?

Could be the battery its electronics as well as the laptop electronics for battery readout. Best to test with another battery, but that's probably quite a hassle....

you stick the battery back in while powered up, it locks up the machine...
