Hi,

No help here but I am having the same issue on an Inspiron E1705.  Identical error otherwise.   I get the message when I plug in my iPod Touch and it won't sync.  I recently did a reinstall and I think maybe it may be a new driver issue.  They were working fine before the reinstall.

Welcome to the forums both of you :emotion-21:

The USB ports are controlled by the chipset, so try reinstalling/updating the chipset drivers?

Check the 'Drivers & Downloads' section for your particular system on the Dell website, to make sure you have the latest ones.

Some devices are picky about which port they're plugged into. If possible, you should use the rear ports on the system, which do not share power with other devices.

However, this message will sometimes occur even though the device and USB port are functioning properly. I would try updating the chipset drivers, as suggested, but otherwise, just ignore the message and see if you are able to transfer properly.

I've been working on this identical issue for nearly 2 days and finally found a fix that worked for my Dimension 4400 running Windows XP SP3 with a NEC USB2.0 PCI card installed (5 port).  I reinstalled the exact same (and most recent) version of BIOS for my PC and viola' , the ports were recognized as USB 2.0, the error message went away, and my external HD (SimpleDrive 250GB) is now running "nearly" as fast as my internal dives.

Hope this helps someone, cause "uninstall the PCI card and let Windows pick the correct drivers" ain't the fix!

Hello to all,

Assuming you have the latest BIOS firmware and chipset driver(s), this is a simple fix.  Boot into the BIOS and select Onboard Devices; change Integrated USB Hub from Compatible to High Speed.  Escape then Save/Exit.
