What percentage of people choose to "downgrade" to a useful OS?
I would like to know what percentage of people who buy a new computer from Dell have chosen to "downgrade" to XP from *** (I got that one fast) Vista?? It has to be more than half, which it should be by now, since those of us who have a machine running Vista tell at least one person a day that it (does that get bleeped?)

Hmmm.......... I have SEVERAL machines running Vista and I haven't told ANYONE - much less "at least one person a day" that "it (does that get bleeped?)." In fact I tell most people that given a choice between XP and Vista, I'd never go back to XP.Everyone to their own opinion however!

Have purchased 6 business computers since Vista came out, all with XP. No regrets. Would do so again today if ordering.

I continue to recommend people go with XP until Windows 7 comes out.
Vista will one day be regarded as highly as Windows ME once was.

I have been using Vista since it came out and no problems at all. Only one program on my Dimension E510 that was upgraded from XP to Vista was incompatible (MusicMatch Jukebox) and that was not a problem since I no longer used it. ALL of my clients that have migrated to Vista are happy and do not want to go back XP.
From what I've read, Windows 7 is Vista.

It is not seen so much in Dell´Forums; However, My nephew asked me to downgrade his HP laptop 5 months ago, so I went to HP Forums for advise and drivers and I was amazed at how many Vista users were asking on how to turn their machines to XP. I read somewhere a few months ago that there were 60% XP users in the USA, I imaging that it has changed by now. It is only a matter of taste that at the end will have to change. Since the OS will, with time, become bigger, faster, and better. ( WE HOPE ).

I did a quick head count today in my office. I have 13 machines (laptops and desktops) running XP and 3 laptops running Vista. My brand new Welch Allyn EKG machine software will only run on XP. Quest Diagnostics labs were unable to install the proper software to link their programs to my electronic medical records program on the Vista machines. Rosetta Stone, the language program, runs great on XP. They had to switch to a Vista version which I have heard is not nearly as good. I hope Windows 7 will be compatible with the programs that cannot run on Vista, because to have to pay extra to convert to an operating system as widely used as XP is seems ridiculous.

That 35% seems very high, unless people are doing the downgrade in violation of the EULA, which I am guessing may be true. Also, when you factor in businesses, who buy computers in bulk quantities, that may account for the seemingly high percentage.
The only allowable downgrade path is from Vista Ultimate and Vista Profrsional, and that downgrade is to XP Professional. I wonder how many have installed XP Home from an old OEM disk and thought that was acceptable (obviously, it is not).
Barring an allowed downgrade, people would have to switch using a licensed full copy (not OEM, not upgrade) of XP. Again, it is more likely for businesses to have those, as many home users probably got an OEM copy of XP when they bought their machine....
Personally, I have not bought a computer since Vista came out... If I did, and it had Vista preloaded, I'd learn to use it and spend my time worrying about other things, not how to downgrade a piece of hardware....
