sarah_ty,

First, do you have Avast or AVG? You state about two different virus protections. I would first recommend that you un-install both virus protections.

Go to Windows Updates and get all the Windows Updates, get the custom ones too, especially the new framework.

Now go and download and install Avast

If you still have problems, please post back.

hi, I see that you tried F2 and F12 already - have you tried F8 (safe mode).  As you switch on press the F8 key up and down and see if that gets you in.  If not: do you have another computer, or a kind friend? If so, you could try getting an external hard disk case, putting your hard drive in to that and attaching to the other computer via USB 2.0.  If you can do that perhaps you can access the data on the drive.

Edit: re-read your first post; as you have only had the computer for 4 weeks you should have a warranty? you could try contacting Dell tech support.

sarah_ty,

Press F8 and then tell it last good know configuration and try to get in that way. Since you purchased the system from ebay, did the seller also provide Operating Disks?

I NEVER get a system without operating disks. What happens when a file is missing? Disks are needed to repair or re-install the system.

This should be a warranty issue. Contact the seller for the disks.

sarah_ty,

 What!!! No CD Drive!!!

Before you proceed, please make sure to copy all the files and folders you need to either a flash drive, or and external Hard Driver or External burner. It's always good policy to always make backup copies of files and folders that you cannot afford to lose.

I would recommend that the seller should handle this. If something goes wrong, I cannot guarentee that your computer will function properly. This is a reason you should always deal with a reputable dealer or company.

In proceeding, you do so at your own risk, since this was NOT purchased with Dell, I don't know what type of warrenty the person gave you.
