Power jack replacement parts

Question

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement chip for the power regulation. I read on another website that I would require a MAX1987 power chip. I need one because I am not able to power the laptop. I can not start it up with the power supply connected nor can I run it off the battery. Everytime I boot up I get an error stating that the power supply is not rated for use on this laptop. I have to trick it by booting up under battery then connecting the power supply while windows loads. I wont charge the battery either so if I dont connect it right away it dies. I also need to replace the power jack but I know where to get that part. I have the right tools to remove and add the chip so doing the work is not going to be difficult. parts-people.com will have the jack.  Newark, Digikey or Mouser should have the chip.

Thats easy. I work at a company that deals with those companys but I didnt exactly know which one I would need.

Can anyone confirm that I have the right part # MAX1987. I see that there are many different types of the same part and I want to be absolutely sure that I get the right one.
