;^) Use the keyboard.  The windows button will open the start menu.  Then, use the arrow keys to navigate to the link for your control panel and use the return key to open it.  Next, navigate similarly to the Control Panel icon for the mouse/trackpad.  The tab key will change which gadget is active, then the return key or space bar will activate it.  Navigate to the appropriate tab for the control you need.  The space bar will check and uncheck the checkboxes.

:^/ I'd give you better step-by-step directions, but I'm using Win2000 desktop right now, which doesn't have the same menus you need to go through.  Still, I'm sure you'll be able to work it out yourself now that you've been clued in a bit.

Thank you so much! I followed your instructions and I now have my touchpad again.

This community is great and so understanding to a computer newbie like myself. My Dad taught me there are no stupid questions. If you don't know how to do something-ask. Sometimes people might roll their eyes-but I walk away a little smarter-like you helping me today!!:emotion-2:

P.S. while I was trying to find a way to personalize my profile I kept getting an error on page message-and the suggestion to contact the system administrator. Anything you might help me with??

P.S.S. while I was tripping and stumbling around the community i found someone who had posted a problem that i was familiar with and i posted what i hope was a solution. Pay it forward-right?

thanks again.

;^) Your dad is correct that there are not stupid questions, only naive ones. -and naivete is quickly outgrown, as you're demonstrating.

You're also correct to pay it forward.  I've had the good fortune to encounter a number of gifted folks who had no qualms about sharing everything they knew, and I'm much wealthier in knowledge for it.  I've been paying it forward ever since.
