That's not quite true - the bulb can be replaced, for far less than the cost of a new panel. An LCD repair shop can do the job for about $100-150, labor and part included.
Well, we will fix this issue. Let me know if you have updated the Video Drivers. Did you check if the screen gets DIM when you work on Safe Mode. We will run LCD BIST test to check the functionality of the LCD screen. Let me know all this.

well, after some browsing it seems that it can be the inverter or the bulb. Is there a way to know what's wrong? Logic says that if the inverter were bad, the whole display would be dim and the problem would be the other component, but wouldnt the same apply to the bulb? Can these go bad by segments or something?
I have inspiron 6400 about 20 months old. It was working fine suddenly this morning I saw a while thin horizontal line in the middle of LCD display screen . I rebooted the system it did nt go away. Some body told me that my screen is going out of order soon and i need to buy new screen.
Can any body from this group can help me in suggesting a remdy for this, incase i need to buy a new screen (15.4) then how much does it cost and can i buy it from dell i searched the dell website but did not find any. Since I am a international student here in cranfield universoity near milton keynes (MK43 0SX) so i dont know repair shop if some body can guide me this matter i would be thankful

There are 3 fluorescent bulbs that backlight the display. One of them is dying. The only fix for this issue is a new display. Sorry.

I have the exact same problem :( (mine is a WUXGA, though), did you solve it? What is the real answer? :emotion-18:
