Does the Inspiron 1501 work with HK421 as well as 11.1 Volts?

Question

I have a HK421 14.8 V (29Wh) battery in my 1501 inspiron purchased new from Dell in July 2007. It has not been working well for about one year. Lasts only a few minutes when removed from AC power. I think my brother may have swapped his old battery into my Dell 1501 last year. I don't know his model number and he is away at college. He denies doing any swap. Is there a way to tell if this battery is my original? When I look for replacement batteries on dell web site, I see the replacement packs are 11.1 Volts and more watt-hours. My pack is 14.8 volts and 29Wh. I understand I can use more watt-hours, but am surprised that the voltage is different. Can the 1501 run on 14.8 V as well as 11.1?

The battery in my dell inspiron 1501 is a 14.8 volt Type HK421 29Wh battery. It has never worked, but this has not been a problem to me as I am housebound. However, I will now be able to travel a little and have looked at changing the battery for a new one. However, they are all 11v ??. What was the outcome of your problem ?

I think this is a common problem and source of confusion. I posted a similar enquiry yesterday as I can only find 11.1 volt battery replacements for my 14.8 volt HK421 batter pack. This seems extremely unusual to have a voltage change like this. Did you manage to get yours working with the 11.1 volt replacement?
