Sigma Tel Audio and Dos Game

So I am trying to run one of my old favorites, Master of Orion 2, and I can get it to work with the windows and Dos compatibility.  The only issue I am having is, with the windows version, I have sound, but my video is a little choppy, i.e. my mouse cursoe gets odd, and sometimes my visual will cut out, but in the DOs version, I have NO video problems but no sound, I tried running the sound configuration program on the MOO2 CD, but I can;t et digital audio to work, any suggestions?

Play it in Windows...  The SigmaTel audio driver relies on DirectX to function in a DOS environment from within Windows, but in a straight DOS environment, DirectX doesn't come in to play, so in essence, the game doesn't really know the sound card is there, since the game tries to access the sound card directly.

You may try to manually configure a SoundBlaster compatible sound card from the game's config options, but chances are good, it probably won't work.

Good Luck with this.  If you get it to work, be sure to come back and post how you did it...

Well- ok I would play it in windows, but my video gets choppy and I lose the game sometimes, so that is a no no, I haven't gotten the sound to work yet, but whatever, it doesn't need sound to be a great game. I just wish there was a way to get the sound working in that Dos format.  The setsound utility on the CD let's me access a soundblaster compatible, but then it won't let me save the settings, which is screwy.

Yeah, it's bad, but unfortunately there really isn't anything you can do for it...  The only thing you may want to look into is building a DOS bootable diskette, and load some SB compatible drivers, and the mouse driver so you basically load to straight DOS from the diskette.  Then use a command line option to load the game from that prompt.  It may or may not work, but you may be able to "trick" the game into thinking you have an SB card while loaded to the diskette.  Good Luck.
