I accidently pulled my inspiron e1405 down(i got hung up in the adapter) 2 months after i bought it in 2007. The screen was shattered and it clearly was my fault. It was not covered, I talked to a representative in India who brought the price down to 318$, all included, and I was quite pleased with that. If it's not covered by Dell, you do want to check any insurance you might have.

Hi.

I am pretty sure if your monitor is covered by the total care warranty, Dell will change your broken one with a new one. That's why I do love Dell!!.

 Keep calling dude.

the display of the monitor is like a breaking glass now, looks very bad.

EDIT:  Looks like I was slow on the draw again :) .

Ouch.  An expensive monitor, too.  If it is repairable it's going to be pricey (probably a few hundred dollars); the standard warranty won't cover accidental breakage (the "complete care" warranty would, though, as mentioned earlier).  And that's if just the glass was cracked; if the LCD panel itself got damaged it may not be worth it.

I would go ahead and look around locally for someone who does LCD monitor and/or TV repairs and get an estimate - likely Dell's going to be more expensive, plus the shipping involved.   The only advantage of having Dell do it would be to keep the rest of the original warranty, but that may not be worth it.

well, does that mean the LCD panel is damaged?

Yes.  The monitor is toast.  Most if not all TV/monitor manufacturer will not cover this type of damage and usually directs you to replace the entire unit.  The outer protective screen is probably undamaged (yes?).  The killer is the fragile LCD screen behind the outer screen has been shattered, thus rendering the display useless.  With my Sharp display I purchased extended coverage for the TV since at the time LCD tv's where fairly new and it stated in the fine print stated that damage to the LCD screen was not covered/protected.  Such a repair is simply cost prohibitive.  Simply purchase a new monitor.

i would guess that you do not have complete care on your desktop - most people only spring for that for notebooks. that being said, i would prepare myself to buy a new monitor. dell will not repair it - they would simply replace it if it was warranted. if a local shop could even get the parts to repair it (highly unlikely) it would most likely cost as much to replace the unit.
