Recent memory upgrade on a Dimension 4700
Hello,
I recently upgraded my RAM from 512Mb to 2Gb using Dell replacement parts. There is no question that Windows and the startup applications, etc. load up faster. However, during startup, between the opening screen with the "Dell" logo and Bios version, etc. (not sure what the offical title to this screen is) and the "Window XP" screen, I get a black screen with a blinking white cursor in the upper right hand corner, which stays there for one minute. The screen then flashes to a message at the top, but stays there for only a fraction of second, too fast to even read. Then it continues to the usually "Windows XP" screen with the scrolling blue dots. Why do I have this black screen with white cursor now? Thanks in advance.

Well, problem solved. :emotion-2: I decided to see if reinstalling the original 512Mb memory would fix my little glitch and sure enough it did. So thinking that perhaps the new memory wasn't properly seated (although you would think it would either work properly or give you some type of indication that the memory isn't properly installed), I tried installing the new memory again, paying more attention to how it was seated (making sure it really "clicked in". Well wouldn't you know it, starts up flawlessly every time now, really "flies thru the boot sequence and windows start up. Of course you'd expect this going from 512Mb to 2Gb, right? Turns out that flash screen (in the beginning) with the message you can't read because it goes by so fast, says "Loading PBR to descriptor 2.....done", is still there but perhaps was always there. And because I never had a problem with the boot sequence, probably never noticed it.
