The links that were made last week are to addresses on the old Dell Forum board and no longer work. Here is my thread about the problem, Choppy/Skipping Audio Workarounds. Some of the links in that thread don't work but I am in the process of repairing them.
same issue, arrived last thurs.... i'ma check that link, if this doesn't get fixed, i'm really not a happy customer, as i bought this thing to record my music on, its just irritating
seems to be a wide spread issue, i'm gonna ring dell get this returned, not good enough for me. Turning the volume down, or wifi off fixes it, well i didn't pay 600 quid for that, bah just more hassle!!
I checked my link to "Choppy/Skipping Audio Workarounds" and it seems to be working. You must be referring to Fireberd's link. He made that link in the the old Dell Forum and so it no longer works here in the new Forum. He had written
It may be an IRQ issue, uninstall the sound or the wireless in the Device Manager then restart the system and Windows will find the sound card and reinstall it and sometimes it will put it on a different shared IRQ.
Sound is a low priority in the Operating System and is usually on a shared IRQ with a higher priority device and if the higher priority device interrupts the system it can cause qlitches in the sound. It is happens that both the sound and wireless are on the same IRQ that could very well be why the wireless affects the sound.
Also, turn off any "sound enhancements" (if this system has those).
Device Manager (or the panel to access it) can be accessed by holding the Windows key down and pressing the Pause/Break key.
I don't think his IRQ tip will help because generally speaking you can't change the IRQ's on the Dell Laptops -- but it can't hurt to try. Then check my link to "Choppy/Skipping Audio Workarounds" (in my previous post in this thread) for the solutions that have worked for others over the last couple of years.
I'm having the same problem with my studio 1535. I've had these issues since the purchase.
I've tried the help line twice. Finally, after re-installing drivers several times they gave up.
At this time, Dell has agreed to replace the motherboard. I'm not confident that this will solve my problems, but at least it's the next step. I'm a little worried that replacing the board will lead to other issues. That's never an easy task on a laptop.
This is rarely a motherboard issue but I don't think it can hurt to try a new one -- except for the inconvenience of course. Check out my thread "Choppy/Skipping Audio Workarounds" for the workaround solutions that have worked for others over the last couple of years. By reading those one can get a sense of some of the problem areas.
I also don't think it has anything to do with your motherboard. Otherwise a lot of motherboards are in this laptops.
In my case it has definitly to do with the wifi. Switching off my wifi solves the problem. Which doesn't really help since my music comes over wifi. :-(
I uninstalled the soundcard and reinstalled it. It still shares the interrupt with the wifi (PCI 17). And it still sounds bad. If this problems finds no solution my laptop goes back to dell.
Has anyone tried changing the default wireless channel from 6 to 1 or another channel? Most users normally keep the same default wireless channel 6 so changing to a different frequency might solve the problem. Of course you need to change the channel on the router and all other wireless on the network.

hi there
suggest everyone own a 1735 and have this 'sound' problem do a little test
cut off your internet connection especially wireless, try playing music again...
audio card and wireless interference, design problem
this problem occur every one minute, it must relate to RF of that wireless card

Hi there,
I got my stydio 1735 2 days ago and I have the same crackling through the speakers.
Dell have 'tried' to fob me off with the same old thing, oh uninstall, re-install etc.
To be honest, this doesn't doesn't work and as Realrock wrote, I have to agree.
The interference is is about every 50 to 70 seconds, but doesn't happen while the wireless is turned off.
I've asked Dell to pick my laptop up and send me a new one, but they have refused as they say it is a 'software' issue and not a design fault.
They also told me that my laptop was was out of warranty, strange as I bought it from them a week ago!

The wireless workaround disabling the 802.11a band, from the link jimco made, completely fixed the problem on my studio 1730. thanks jimco =)
