968 driver

I just bought a 968 All In One printer and am having trouble installing it. The disk that was sent does not work in my computer for some reason. When i try to download the driver from Dell's website, it gets to a certain point in the installation and just hangs there when it gets to where it says "installing fax software". Is there anyone has that had any problems or may be able to help...i need it for school..:(

car54GM,

Make and model of your computer and operating system. Also please provide how you're trying to connect the 968 printer to your computer.

I am having the same problem although I'm connected with USB cable and not wireless.  I have uninstalled, reinstalled, shut down, restarted, reinstalled over and over and get a different operation each time.  In the beginning, it would print a few things fine and then it would seem to jam up. I bought different paper but that wasn't the problem.  It's like it chose to stop the print operation as the paper began to feed and wasn't a paper jam until the printer chose to stop.  I'd remove the paper, print again and it would do the same thing.  Then I would print just highligh a section on the internet to print and all would work well.  One time when I reinstall, I get the scan function.  One time I don't.  One time I get the fax operation failure to load error.  One time it appears fine but something else is wrong.  Dell needs to issue an updated disc and send to every 968 customer.  It appears that the disc I have is a later version than what is available online.  It's dated 2007 and my disc is dated 2008.  I need my printer to work, prepare business cards, graduation invitations, labels, etc.  You can bet it will work properly until I'm in a bind to get something finished and it will quit everytime and give me some error.  I'm about ready to box it up and ship it back!!!!!!!!!!!

drilling4,

Try using the instructions below and then tell me what happens. If it does not work, make and model of your computer and operating system will be needed.

First make sure your computer has all the Windows updates. I have the custom ones too, especially the new framework(Needed to run many applications). Also make sure to have the latest Java. Since you didn't mention how the printer's connected, here the basic instructions for this printer.

Disconnect your printer.

Un-install your printer.

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

64-bit Drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on). Please use a 5ft or smaller USB Cable.

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Restart your computer.
