The battery indicatior light on my laptop blinks 4 times orange then 1 time green

I searched the site and saw a thread similar to mine yet never saw a tech response.  First, is that common?

I have had my Inspiron 6000 laptop for a few years now and have had no trouble with it whatsoever.  In the last month or so, the battery light flashes as mentioned above whether or not it is plugged in or operating solely off battery power.  Is my battery fried?  Do I need to buy a new one?  Is anyone sure that will fix the problem?

1.) As user to user forums, there will not be replies from tech support here.

2.) The flashing amber 4 times fast then green generally represents a bad battery.

3.) This also happens if a battery is TOTALLY discharged. The falshing pattern will be visible until the battery has about 5% charge, then it will go back to normal That does not seem to apply to you.

4.) This issue also could be the charger... Does it do it when unplugged? If so, probably not the charger....

5.) It could be the motherboard...

6.) Since it is several years old, I'd bet it is just the battery, but nobody here can promise for sure that is the case...

It's almost certainly just the battey - which is dying of old age.
