When updating a PERC firmware, first update the driver, hold off on any reboots and then update the firmware and reboot.
Particularly the Adaptec controller drivers wouldn't recognize the raid controller if the firmware was of a different version than that which the driver was written for.

Is your PERC3 an Adaptec controller?
When updating a PERC firmware, first update the driver, hold off on any reboots and then update the firmware and reboot.
Particularly the Adaptec controller drivers wouldn't recognize the raid controller if the firmware was of a different version than that which the driver was written for.
To recover:
- download the old version of your PERC3 firmware
- apply this (dos boot floppy)
- boot into the OS
- now update the driver first
- re-update the firmware
