sewnutz,

Follow the instructions below and then let me know what happens. Using the patch is a MUST on Vista machines.

Go to Windows Updates and get all the latest Updates, especially net framework(custom update). Net framework is needed for most applications to run. Also make sure to have the latest Java.

Restart your computer. Now follow the instructions below.

Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer.

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

Vista 64-bit drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

Thank you very much for your help. It turns out I already had the newest net framework version. The all in one center is back now and I didn't need to do the last step with the disk. I tested everything and its working fine now. Thank you again!

No problem, I've copied your post and left out the parts I didn't need.

Hi Rick,
I am having the same problem with my dell printer and trying to use your solution.  Couple of questions:

1.  what internet address do I use for "windows updates" to get "net framework" and the latest java.  What are the specific instructions for this given I am only

a moderately experienced computer user?

2.  when i tried to download the patch, I double click on the downloaded file, and then get an error message that says "there are no files to download. Please go to drivers and downloads to select files".  I'm confused.

Thanks for the help,

Dave

Dave,

If you have an A920 Printer, then the instructions are here. If you have a different model, then make a new thread at Dell Printers Forum Actually, make and model of your computer would also be helpful.

Windows Updates for XP  for Vista, Start, all programs, Windows Updates. .net framework is a custom update for XP and other systems. It should show up in Windows Updates foor Vista machines.
