Battery problem on Inspiron 8600

Question

Yesterday, I ran the battery down completely and when I began to charge it the battery LED started to flash; 4 oranges and then a green continuously. Also if I go press the power indictator button on the battery the first, middle, and last lights flash. Any help in resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated. Note: My battery is quite old so.

You need a new battery.

Try running your computer without the battery.  Obviously, you'll need to plug in to AC all the time.

I there a way of getting rid of the flashing lights without replacing the battery?
