I too am having this same problem. Currently my battery is still working, but it will not fully charge. It will only charge to 52%. I have also called Dell, and received the same response that most of you have, "It is no longer covered under my warranty." I have browsed several forums in regards to this issue, and the one thing that I have noticed is that, we all seemed to hav purchased them around June 2008. I am also having a problem with my computer slowing down. I have scanned for spyware, and viruses, I have defraged as well as deleted several files but it is still really slow. Is anyone else having this problem.

To recover CPU speed, try a tool called Notebook Hardware Control (NHC).

There's so software solution to solve the full problem, key to that is to change the BIOS which is a seriously complex hack.
So best route atm is to locate the source of the problem (adapter / motherboard) and plan your actions accordingly.

Cheers!

I am having the same problem. I've been on the phone with tech support at least 4 times about it, I was browsing this forum before I give it another go

One note re: Cindy's sons laptop. I have not yet had my motherboard replaced (that's my next step), but I have tried using the battery from my mother's newer computer of the same model, it did not fix the problem. Just wanted to put that out there for anyone who is considering the battery as their only fix.

Gosh! :-(

I just bought a replacement battery from Honk Kong for 26 EUR. But I had no alternatives: DELL support told me that the problem was in the motherboard and it proposed me to change the MoBo for 282 EUR :-S

I hope it fixes the problem.

Same problem here!!!:emotion-6:

A month later one year warranty period my 9 cells m1530 battery died! the battery led status in the front side of notebook blinked to say " temporary battery failure" and it stopped to charge. After many calls to customer service there was only one solution for them: buy a new battery!

simply a coincidence???

It sounds like a lot of M1530 batteries are failing just a few months out of warranty. Happened to mine too. I've created a Google form to try to collect battery failure reports so we can ask Dell to recognize that there is a problem with this battery and have it included in their battery replacement program. (They've done this with other laptops before.)

The only way this will work is if we can get a sufficient number of responses. If your m1530 battery failed suddenly just a few months out of warranty, PLEASE take a minute to fill out this form:

I'm having the same problem. With the first battery (that came with the PC) it suddenly stopped recognising the battery, telling me "no battery detected".

After many calls to Dell (and some operators telling me my computer was out of warranty, and others telling me I had 2 years left) an on-site technician came to my house free of charge. He replaced the motherboard anyway, but said it was a battery problem.

So I purchased another battery (from one of the on-line sites). Installed this yesterday, however now getting the "battery won't charge, % available, plugged in". The "battery health" pop up tells me "the battery will charge, but is near the end of its life. You should consider purchasing a new battery". THE BATTERY WON'T CHARGE!

So I'm not sure if it's the battery I bought on-line, or a problem with the PC itself. But there sure is a lot of negative comment on the battery for the 1530.

This is my 3rd Dell PC, and most certainly my last. There has to be a better option.

I too had the same problem! I got mine as a high school graduation gift in either late May 2008 or early June 2008. It worked perfectly until May 2009. It would overheat and randomly shut down so I updated my Bios. However, soon after my battery stopped charging. Luckily I was within the 1 year warranty for batteries so they came and replaced not only my motherboard (which apparently was fired - likely due to the overheating) and my battery. I had no problem until late November when my battery stopped charging - again. However this time it began to charge again so I'm not sure what happened. It's been fine for a while but will talk to Dell customer service soon just so that it's on record.

My overheating problem continues to plague me though. Has anyone else had this problem? Though sometimes I think it occurs because of it sitting on thick, warm blankets it sometimes does it while it is sitting in my lap. It hasn't done it in over a month but is an issue I will bring up (again) when I talk to customer service. I recently installed Windows 7 and it has been cool ever since so maybe part of the problem was Vista? I'm not a computer person but have read that some people have had similar results.

If you're entertaining other brands, note that many are far worse than Dell.

Update...

Well, I finally broke down and bought a new battery on Amazon for $50. It cured the problem!

The battery arrived with 50% charge and started charging immediately. I now get a good three

hours of untethered use!

I'm still not happy my Dell battery died at 13 months, but to be fair, they didn't make the battery either...

So far, so good on the replacement and $50 is much better than $180. I figured if the new battery didn't

fix the problem, Dell would have to step up.

This is the battery I bought: AGPtek Li-ion Battery For Dell XPS M1530 series replace RU006 RU033

Good Luck Everyone!

I had a very similar problem. One day out of the blue my XPS M1530 Stoped charging. It just said (plugged in, not charging). I called tech support and they went threw a group of tests where they ultimately told me that I needed to buy a new battery. My friend told me that his had a bad connection on it. So I tore my laptop down to the motherboard and found that these M1530's actually have a small board that the A/C adapter plugs into. So you don't have to purchase a whole motherboard. After carefully inspecting this part, it was clear to me that this was not the problem. I bought a used battery off of EBAY, and low and behold it wouldn't charge either. Not believing that every battery in the world could be bad and the laptop fine. I googled this problem and found multiple forums out there with all kinds of solutions to this problem. The only one that I found to work is flashing your bios with A09, the A12 bios doesn't work all that well. Check your bios version and if your running 12 I would deffinately suggest 09 I have been very pleased with it. I has been charging both my batteries ever since. Only problem that you are probably going to run into is that you have to have at least 10% battery life in order to flash your bios. You might be able to find some one to lend you their battery. let me know if you have trouble with this. Worst case scenario you could ship me your battery and I could charge it for you and send it back to you so that you can flash your BIOS. GOOD LUCK.

Has anyone changed to the 6 cell battery? Have there been similar problems with it? I had the same problem. Service tech changed the mother board, same issue. I picked up a new battery off the internet and it has worked until today which is somewhere between 6 months and a year. Can't totally recall.

I would like to try the bios thing but don't have enough juice in the battery.

I had the same problem as you had, yesterday, and ofcourse a month after my warranty expired.

First my adapter stopped working, so i ordered a new one and although it did work, suddenly my battery stopped charging

and I got the error while booting that my adapter was not recoginized.

After some googling I discovered that the new adapter I ordered was labeled 'A00' and the broken adapter 'A09' on the back,

this got me thinking it might have to do something with the bios i was running. So i checked my bios version and discovered

it was set to version 'A12'. I still had 21% batterypower so I took the chance, and downloaded biosversion 'A09' and flashed my bios.

Now it is working again and charging. So if you're still above 10% what is required to flash, I certainly would recommend looking

into this option which might just resolve the whole issue.

Good luck everyone.
