leh0201,

It probably didn't. You needed to add Microsoft Word to the list. You added AcroRd32, which is Adobe Reader. You made a PDF, which is a huge file.

I have Open Office. To add it, I Opened the Del All-In-One Center, scanning and copying. Update list of applications to send scane to. I clicked on add, Top I put Open Office, Browse until I located the swriter.exe file. Location was...

C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice.org 3\program\swriter.exe

File types supported, I clicked add, then added Rich Text Format(RTF).

I then go to my Dell 964 Printer, which is attached to a Dell Wireless Printer Adapter 3300, I click on scan, look for a list of printers. I select Richard, then it downloads a list of applications(ones I have saved in the Dell All-In-One Center) I select Open Office. It scans the document(if using the ADF, it will scan all the pages first, then when it's done scanning the last page, you'll see the computer show the Abbyy Fine Reader until finally it pops up and has the information you scanned, typed in a Open Office Document. I can then edit it to make it read what I want, then I can save it as a .doc and I can open and edit it at any time.

I also have my images scan ti IrfanView, same difference, just I type IrfanView, browse to...

C:\Program Files (x86)\IrfanView\i_view32.exe

Add, jpg

I scan to this program, as I can edit it to a different size. My friends at work ask me if I can send them the schedule, when they're on vacation. I scan the schedule, resize it to 10' x 7'73", then save it. I then email it saying subject to change.  A long time ago, I tried just emailing them the days but missed one, this clears me of that.

Jpg's will not be the issue, just scanning to Word.

I updated the wiki as we discussed, to provide a little bit more detail in the navigation steps. Hope it's helpful! Thank you so much for helping me fix this problem. It had been bugging me for months!

leh0201,

Thank you for fixing the Wiki, too! :emotion-21: I leave my see more scan settings that way all the time, so maybe that why I didn't notice it.

Just glad to help you get things working. Sometimes trying to explain takes a few times. I type faster than I should.

Take care,

Rick

Hello-

I just updated to Windows 7 and I am having similar problems with my AIO 924 printer. I have read most of the post related to my problem and have also followed the instructions to fix the problems. However, I noticed that there seems to be two different driver downloads for the 924 Vista 64-bit. The download  driver file names are  R148157 and R148159. When I download the first file, I am able to use the copy function but cannot print. When I print I get a message telling me to "Enable Bidirectional Communication". However, we I try to download the latter file, the installation screen and options are written in some type of Asian language. I even called tech support and told them I have Window 7 and printer issues and they told me to download that same driver. When I unzipped it and tried to install, it was also in an Asian language format. Am I doing something wrong?

Angela,

First, I will tell you that Dell says this printer is not Windows 7 compatible, however I have had people have sucess with installing some of the printers that Dell says are not.

Disconnect the printer. You can try running the patch, it mentioned in a previous post in this thread. It may or may not work. Also manually remove the printer driver.

Manual Printer Driver Removal

Restart your computer.

Try installing the R148157 Vista Drivers that I provided with the link.

If you get the enable biodirectional message, then...

Start, control panel, printers, your printer.

Right click on your printer, left click properties, ports. Check the box, enable biodirectional support.

Angela,

You really did all the hard work, I just merely sent you in the right direction. Dell says that some of the printers are NOT Windows 7 compatible and for the most part, the Vista drivers do actually work, with a little configuring.

Glad you got it working and thanks for posting back.

Take Care,

Hi Rick, well I finally got my Dell 924 to work with Windows7 - thanks to your guidance.  The R148157 Vista 64 Bit is the successful driver, installed in compatibility mode.  And what seemed to have stopped the installation initially was a McAfee setting.

Thanks a lot for your help.  Brillliant!
