my ethernet port is broken

Question

I have an inspiron 1420 laptop. One of the pins on the ethernet port has broken . The lap is out of warranty(last month). I heard the only way to fix it is to replace the whole board cause the port is fixed on it. Is that true? What are my options here? And there is no dell service center in Kerala.   Thanks you and hope someone wil help.Eby

ejohn Why not purchase a USB wireless dongle and leave the faulty ethernet port alone. This way your 1420 will still be of use (and at little cost). Good Luck GiGi

Take the advice./ Do not attempt to take the laptop apart!! Unless you want a useless laptop. First one I took apart was a junker to see how they came apart. The dongles are cheap. Look on ebay.  Good luck
