Why not purchase a USB wireless dongle and leave the faulty ethernet port alone.
This way your 1420 will still be of use (and at little cost).

Take the advice./ Do not attempt to take the laptop apart!! Unless you want a useless laptop. First one I took apart was a junker to see how they came apart. The dongles are cheap. Look on ebay. Good luck
