The M1710 will take two CPUs that are faster: the T7400 and T7600, but nothing else.
If what you're asking is, can you use a desktop CPU from an old AGP board in the M1710, the answer is no, you cannot.

The CPU is plug and play but be sure you clean any thermal material from the heatsink and replace it with a fresh layer on the new CPU.

this is new, what is thermal material, and how will it benefit my laptop if i replace it?
thanks
Thermal compound is used to ensure good heat transfer between the CPU and heatsink. Do some research before installing your CPU (or have a shop do the install for you).
thanks that is what i need.
to replace it would i need to any rewirng, or do i just unscrew it, clip it out then plug in the new one.
and also , does my comp need to do system restore or will it recalibrate the way it is.
ok, thanks for all ur info
