It sounds like either your glass is dirty and/or the light bulb is starting to fail.
If you're using the ADF to scan and sends documents, then try looking on the glass near the edge and make sure to clean any dirt from the edge. Try using a Q-tip or something si milar and then try making a copy of something.
Thanks for your quick reply. I cleaned the glass with Q-tips. Unfortunately that didn't help.
The light bulb looks kind of light pink to me. I don't remember if it was brighter before. It looks like a soft glow to me. Is it supposed to be brighter? If so, can I change the light bulb myself? If so, where may I buy a bulb and where are instructions for changing it?
I really don't think you can replace the light in the printer, but I may be wrong. Try posting that question in the Dell Printers Forum and someone there can tell you for sure.
