I have the same problem.  I either get search windows, new IE tabs or most annoyingly, it kicks into a zoom mode and the keypad/mouse won't do anything but enlarge or shrink the screen.  I have to save things repeatedly, and rarely get a facebook response typed before it disappears.  THIS window has already disappeared three times....

Replying to my own post - today I went into the control panel and disabled the touch pad and associated buttons completely.  I have a wireless Mouse, and the laptop is now operating perfectly.  Not sure this will address everyone's problems, but it could be worth a try.

Hold down the Fn key and the F2 key when your computer is booting up.   You have to do it before you get the Windows Screen.  If you get the Windows screen you are too late and you cannot access the System setup.   Once you open the system setup go to System Configuration, then find Function Key Behavior.  Change it from Multimedia first to Function Key First.  Do Not change anything else you can cause yourself problems.  Just change that only.  If you think you inadvertantly changed something just exit without saving changes.  The exit options will be at the bottom of the screen.  If you do change the Function Key Firsy only.  Save Changes and Exit.

Your keyboard will be back to what you are used to.

Hi

I was having some problems with the touchpad too. The cursor was jumping around which made typing difficult. The Dell support guy downloaded the Alps Touch Pad driver and that fixed it.

I have the same problems described above. Plus that my cursor jump around that hit one key to end my typing this message a second ago. In addition, my touch pad does not work properly. It forced me using mouse only.

Sadly, I had contacted the support personnel many times and spent many hours already. The more recent one was determined that I have to pay for software support although it's still in one-year warranty. I got very frustrated. I wonder why it could be so difficult to be resolved. Due to this problem, my son bought IBM laptop which works great. What is Dell's quality control?
