Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
I thought about that after I clicked the post button. I have this tweak, too.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager). Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
While you're in there try going into the Advanced properties for the network card adapter and setting "Atenna Diversity" to "Aux". (I don't know if you have this setting but if you do, it will help.)
I have the 5100n in my Studio 1737. It came with Vista Home Premium 32-bit but I have installed Vista Home Premium 64-bit on it. Having very few issues but it's working great.
What type of security are you using in your wireless router? I usually recommend using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings in your wireless router. Did you ever update the firmware in the wireless router, as they sit in a warehouse for a period of time and get out dated?
That actually sounded like it may work, unfortunately however, this was not the case. I tried unchecking the box allowing windows to power off the device, then tried copying a 22GB file, but it quite 38% through the transfer... also I've noticed the transfer rate slowly decreases from 79 MB/sec down to below 30MB/sec before dropping out altogether... I have a sinking feeling this is a hardware problem.
Hello Rick, thanks for your help, though I'm not having any issues with my wireless card... the problem I'm having has to do with the ESATA, 1394 and USB ports on my machine. But to answer your question, yes, all drivers and firmware have been updated including the wireless card. I think I'll be calling Dell this weekend to ship it back.
