Windows XP does not have native support for SATA drives. You'll either have to load the SATA drivers when you iinstall XP, or an easier method is to make a simple change in the BIOS. As the computer boots, press F2 (Enter Setup). Expand Drives>SATA Operation (or SATA Controller) and set the option to Raid/ATA Autodetect. Save this change and reboot the computer. You should now be able to install XP.
As for the Recovery Partition, once you install (or reinstall) an operating system (either Vista or XP), the functionality of F8 (recover the computer to factory defaults) is broken. Some have had success restoring this functionality with the method outlined in this thread.

Go into your computers bios, and set "Sata Operation" to "ATA", as opposed to AHCI (Advanced Hot Controller Interface).
You will also need device drivers for windows XP.
