Within Windows and in Device Manager, do you have a catagory called "IEEE 1394 Bus Host controllers" that has a Plus sign next to it?

That is the Firewire controller... if it's not listed then there's something going on.

Having some problems as well with an external DVD writer that worked flawlessly on a 8200. It sees the device, but on a reboot it does not. Un-re pluging it does not help.

Hi,

yes the firewire controller is in the hardware device manager. I have tried to deinstalling it and after booting windows xp has installed it new.

But that does not solve the problem.

Is anybody running the i8600 under win 2K? Perhaps it is an XP problem.

hi same thing happened with my brother's I8500 when he was trying to get some songs off my Westernd Digital HDD, but since i had already formatted the hdd on my i8200, the i 8500 didn't even pick up it was there, yet i double clicked on my computer, and eurika, the F drive was there...tell me if this works...good luck
