Low Disk Space on Recovery (E:)

OK, first, I have read the multitude of postings with this same topic, but I cannot find my situation. I am not using the Recovery drive for backups or anything else to my knowledge. I have a separate USB back up drive. I am running MS SBS 2008 on a PowerEdge T300 with RAID Mirrored 500 G drives. Partitions and SBS were installed by Dell. The Recovery Drive is 3 GB with 1.7 GB free. That has not changed for the last two months now, but the server just started generating the low disk space messages last week.

Any ideas about what might be expanding this space? With my backups in place, should I even care about the recovery disk? If my drive goes out, recovery partition will go with it, right?

I did not receive any responses, but in case someone else runs into this issue...I found that shadow copies feature was active for the small recovery drive. I turned it off and ran defrag. Plenty of space now and no more error messages. :-)

I have just started seeing this same problem as well. Tried LEWT's suggestion of disabling shadow copies and running defrag but the error is still there. Anybody have any other ideas??

Did you turn off System Protection for your E: drive?  Are you/have you writing/storing anything on that drive; what are its contents?

Stupid question but how do I turn off system protection and should I? The E: drive is a Dell factory installed partition for recovery use only. It is provisioned to 3GB and has 1.71GB of free space so there should not be an issue with this partition. I have not recently changed anything relating to the E: drive so am unsure as to why this is suddenly an issue.
