It is possible to upgrade, but if your laptop is still under warranty the parts they put in won't be covered by the original warranty.  They will only be covered by the warranty that comes with the part itself.  Buy the parts off eBay and upgrade yourself, Dell will only charge you too much to do what you can easily do yourself.

repair depot won't upgrade parts unless the part being repaired/replaced is no longer being shipped.
