I have also gotta Windows 7 professional installed on Dell D630 and got all the drivers supported to windows7, actually maximum drivers were automatically installed and some of the softwares like modem, nvidia graphics cards and orignal sound driver of windows vista is downloaded from Dell site, All the drivers installed properly and working excellent with Windows7.
My Dell Latitude D630 Specifications:
Core2Duo 2.4 Ghz, L2 Cache 4 MB,
RAM 2GB, HD 120GB, DVD,Nvidia 128MB Graphics Card etc.

I am in the same situation... I don't want to blow away XP before I have either new drivers or assurance the existing ones will function.
