The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first(if applicable), then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.
Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.
:emotion-55: Hint :emotion-55: When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.
Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software(if applicable) Chipset or SMBus driver Processor Driver (if applicable) Video Audio (sound) Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse) Modem Network Card
I went fro Vista Home Premium 32-bit to 64-bit and had to do the same procedure. I had an issue with one driver, but managed to locate one. I know how time consuming it can be. If you still have the recovery partition, you can use the Dell Factory Image as long as it's not corrupt and make things easier.
Also, I wanted you to know that I have the Operating System Reinstallation CD/Windows/sp2 and did a clean reboot. So that you know my laptop is sitting
with a fresh screen that only has the recycle bin icon on the desktop! Thanks!
Thanks again. I did click in Device manager and I have two yellow question marks under "Other devices". One is "Ethernet Controller" that states it is not installed (code 28) and the other is "PCI Device" that states the same thing. Also just wanted to let you know that since I got confused on the Dell website to download drivers that I haven't installed any that you suggested yet, so my computer is still clean from adding anything and I don't have internet connection on it until I load for my Belkin Wireless G.
Ok. Now I have 4 yellow question marks: Ethernet Controller, Modem Device on high def. bus, Video Controller, and Video Controller (VGA compatible).
Also, when I restarted my computer it brought up a box that said "Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard and wants to connect to Windows Update but I can't get on the internet as I haven't installed anything for my Belkin.
Install these drivers. After you install the Broadcom, you should be able to connect with an ethernet cable. I didn't see what your wireless card was. You probable do not need to install the Belkin software to connect unless you have a Blekin wireless ards/adapetr that's connected to the computer. If it's for your Belkin router, then it's most like not needed at this time.
Oh, and yes for right now I am using a wireless g adapter that plugs into the usb for connectivity. I have used it for a long time so it surprised me that when
I restored it didn't work. Thank you! :emotion-42:
Did you have to use Intel ProSet Wireless or Windows Zero Configuration to connect using the Belkin USB adapter. If you need Intel ProSet, let me know.

txmathteacher,
Did you install the drivers in the correct order? You did a clean installation, correct? I like this method a little better. Restoring Your Computer´s Software to the Factory Settings

Thanks, Rick! Yes it was difficult trying to load everything and the person who helped me did not say that I needed to install in a specific order.
I will try it the way you have stated and let you know if it solves the problem. It is so time consuming to download from one computer and then
have to install it on the other but thank goodness I was smart enough to label all of the downloads when I did!! Thanks again!

I'm sorry. I am totally lost now. I went to the Dell site here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=INSPIRON1300/B130&os=WW1&osl=en&servicetag=&catid=-1&impid=-1&deviceid=283&libid=17&releaseid=R120179&formatcnt=1&vercnt=2
and the page has changed. I wanted to see if I downloaded all of the drivers & things that I needed and can't
tell which of these I need to download for the order you gave me. They all seem to have different names.
Thanks in advance for your help!!

txmathteacher,
I read your first thread, then I read this one. It sounds like you have something, but I'm not exactly sure what.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Then tell me if you have any yellow exclaimination marks or red x's

txmathteacher,
When you said Operating system, SP2, I'm assuming( and that not a very good thing) that you have XP as your operating system, correct?
I'll wait for your reply.

Am downloading right now. Is there a link for the Video controller? It wasn't highlighted like the rest.
Thanks so much!
