2408wfp(digital) driver not driving 1920x1200 res on a 2408wfp monitor working with Displayport

I have Dell Precision  M6400 with the Quadro FX 3700M (1G) video card operating under vista 64bit business. Hooking it up to a new 2408wfp monitor I'm unable to get even close to driving the monitor at 1920x1200. I've uninstalled nvidia drivers and reinstalled drivers to no avail. Everything seems up to date. Bios A05, Chipsets, video drivers. Curious though, when i hook up with the VGA connector...it works just fine at 1920x1200 (i.e 2408wfp(analog)). Its only when I'm hooked up via DISPLAYPORT to DISPLAYPORT that I have this issue. can anyone help? I can live with the VGA seeing that it works for my desired resolution of 1920x1200 but I am a digital nut and would prefer DISPLAYPORT technology. Help!

I have a 2408WFP that I am trying to hook up directly to a ATI HD5870 via DisplayPort to DisplayPort.  I can't even get an image.  All works well with the other ports.  I will probably have to take it all back to a store somewhere here and see if they have another card, cables and monitor so I can swap it all out and isolate the problem.

Just thought I would post this incase any others are having DisplayPort problems.  I probably would not be here to reply if it worked.  I guess that is a problem with these fourms.

W7 release, 64-bit
