I'm confused. Are you saying you see a lock on the screen or that the monitor is blank?

* Turn off the monitor
* Unplug the monitor from the computer (ALL cables)
* Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket
* Turn on the monitor
* The floating red/green/blue/white dialog box should appear on screen against a black background
* What appears on your monitor?

Chris, I was supposed to reply here I thought I was banned from the site for a moment, I am new to this site and confused over the format.

 I see the dialog box for one second also, I have to turn it on and off see it. It is unpluged and isolated, the 17" Dell monitor I am using now from my friend is identical but smaller and works great with this PC. I confused you about the locking of the monitor. I see a lock symbol at the bottom of the rear section with a cut out next to it.I thought maybe there was supposed to be a plug in there to unlock it.

 I think in a nut's and bolt's fashion , I am not a PC wizzard by no means.

Thanks, Kirk

If the other monitor works on the Vostro and the Dell monitor Self Test fails, then our monitor is defective.

Ok,

Does the Monitor carry the same warranty as the Vostro? I have never had a monitor die, with hardly any use? It has sat idle for many months and it's waste. My father purchased this package deal only to find out there was no hardware unstalled, he is 84, I purchased all the software through dell that was needed to have a backup PC, I never read between the lines of the small newspaper add on warranty. I am really surprised it is no longer valid? It seem's like yesterday I was ordering software for it?

The monitor/PC warranty expired on 8/7/2009. The 3 year monitor warranty only applies to stand alone monitor purchases.

Stand alone monitor's? Humm? Sounds like all the junk monitors go to the package deals.

 I did not see the fine print I needed my magnafine glass for. As the old addage says  You Get What You Pay For.  I will let the old man know, Chinese made is not uncommon for what used to be a US based company. I belive this fall's short of a loan shark's used car lot.

  This Company will Never purchase a Dell product again, they fail to stand behind what they sell!

 I will take the monitor out and use it for target practice.
