If the computer that you used the card on has been compromised
with Keylogger and other trojan malware then that could be the source
of your debit card being used fraudulently.  These installer programs
will often hijack the victim's search results, or steal data from the
infected computer.

The central question surrounding the new wave of crime is this:
How did the thieves managed to foil the PIN code system designed to fend
off such crimes?

The incident calls into question the security of the four-digit code that
for years has made PIN-based transactions less subject to fraud than
signature-based credit card transactions.

In recent weeks, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Washington Mutual and Citibank have all
reissued debit cards after detecting fraudulent activity. Smaller banks, such as Ohio-based
National City Bank and Pennsylvania-based PNC Bank, have taken similar steps.

Its one reason why I never use Credit cards to get cash and I have never had an ATM card or Check Card or Debit card.

I check my account balance daily and I always keep a paper trail.

RobbertQQ,

Sorry to hear you had problems with the ordering system.  I assure you that Dell takes customer information and privacy matters very seriously.  We have a very strict Privacy Policy.

Dell has a Fraud Division that looks into these matters.  They will investigate and prosecute those involved.  Please contact Customer Care and ask to be directed to the Fraud Division.  If this is not working for you, then send me a Private Conversation by selecting "contact" below and then "Start a Private Conversation with Dell-Robert P", and I will see what I can do.

Again, sorry for the confusion, and hopefully we can get the new computer out to you quickly.

Regards,

Robert

Hi again and thanks for the comments. You are right my computer might have been compromised. Never thought of that. I will save necessary files in my computer then restore it to original condition ......just to be sure. I would also like to add that I just got off the phone with customer service at Dell and they said that they would expedite my order and ship it out over night delivery. The customer service, at least my experience with them, has been above expectations. There is a girl there by the name of Nisha that has been extremely helpful. She also has called and let me know whats going on every step of the way. I am very pleased with customer service at Dell and a very speacial thanks to Nisha. :emotion-15: Thanks again for the replies!!!

"The incident calls into question the security of the four-digit code that

The problem is that with many debit cards, they can also be run as credit, with no PIN required. Listen at the grocery store or anywhere someone uses the debit card. They will often ask (or the machine asks on the screen) if they want it run as debit or credit. What we choose is not imiportant. The criminals know to choose credit due to the lower security.....

Sorry, semi off topic, but that is a security issue that bothers me, as banks should provide DEBIT ONLY cards if requested. It seems like it would help everyone.

OP, glad Dell is working for you and enjoy your new machine.

Robert.  I also ordered a computer on the Dell website on 6/11/2009, it was shipped via fedex on 6/19  and my computer is still NOWHERE to be seen on the FEDEX tracking site.   Apparently with FedEx 3-5 day delivery there are limited scans on these packages.   Do you think someone heisted a truckload of computers??   randy

It's possible. I was told by Fedex that is was a paperwork issue and because of that customs wouldn't let the packages through. I don't know if that is true or not. Fedex has told me a lot of stories over the days......that was just there last bit of information they gave me. All I can say, if you haven't already, contact customer support and complain. Even talk to a manager if you have too. My package is due in to day. I spoke with a girl by the name of Nisha and she had put my computer back into production and speeded up the process. It was shipped out overnight delivery also. If you haven't already got your issue fixed I hope this helps! If you need a number for Nisha let me know and I will get it for you. She should be able to get it fixed.

kidosee,

I haven't heard of anything like that happening, might just be that the website hasn't been updated yet.  Dell's website will show shipped even if we just put it on the truck, once the truck is filled, then it goes to FedEx for delivery to the customers.

Please send me your order number in a Private Conversation by clicking on "contact" below and  selecting "Start a Private Conversation with Dell-Robert P" and I'll see what I can find out.  Thanks.

Regards,

Robert

Thanks Robert. I followed up today, they confirmed Fed Ex reported the package as "Lost in Transit"  and they are going to manufacture a new computer for me and ship it overnight.  The service rep was very helpful.

Good luck on that one. I am still waiting on mine, and I was told the same story.
