hello, i know the fix to your problem, but it requires a lot of patience to comprehend every single step, ok heres to start
1. disconnect the usb cable between your printer and laptop.
2. turn your printer off and disconnect it from the power outlet.
3.make sure your log in in your computer is in administrator. you can check it on control panel>user accounts
4. if your using vista, click the start(pearl icon), in the start search box type: services.msc and press enter. find dldo device on the list and right click it and click restart. if restart is greyed out, click start. there should be green bars loading. repeat restarting dldo device three times.
5. find print spooler on the list still, and right click it too, restart it or start..green bars should be loading too. repeat restarting print spooler three times.
6.minimize services local window. uninstall printer software again, using the cd if you still have it. or in the option in your start>dell printers>dell AIO 968>uninstall
do this for now.. wait for my future instructions..need to go somewhere..we have to totally clean your printer files in your computer..ill be back
Thank you so much for your help! I have done everything you said to do in the above post. standing by for your further instructions! Thanks again. I really appreciate the help!
after doing the uninstall, we have to completely remove the printer files in your computer,
1. restart the computer after the uninstall.
2after the computer restarted, go to start(pearl icon), type msconfig on the start search box and press enter.
3, you will see a system configurations utility window, make sure that the green button is on normal start up under the general tab. if its not change it to normal start up and follow the instruction that says to restart the computer,
4.pc restarted, we will have to go to start (pearl icon) type regedit on the start search box and press enter. you will see the registry editor window come up.
5. there are 5 main classifications on the left, we have to navigate and go to HKEY>CURRENT USERS,click the plus sign to reveal the contents, and find the printers folder, when you find it, highlight it and press delete on your keyboard, BUT heres the thing if the dell 968w printer is your only printer, then delete the printers folder but if you have other printers then you must open the printers folder and delete the dell only, because doing this will delete ALL your printers.
6. now after that, go to HKEY>SOFTWARE, find dell printer 968 and delete it too. in other words find and delete anything that sayd dell 968 printer, IMPORTANT: dont delete anything that is not saying a specific dell printer, because your laptop is dell, you might delete important DELL files, so only delete dell 968 printer filenames on them.
7. now go to HKEY>LOCAL MACHINE>SOFTWARE, delete anything that said dell 968. then still under HKEY>LOCAL MACHINE>CONROLSET001>ENVIRONMENTS>WINDOWS NTX86, delete anything that says dell 968, under CONTROLSET001>PRINTERS, delete dell 968, still under CONTROLSET001>DEVICE MONITORS, delete dell 968, same with CONTROLSET002 components, delete anything hidden that says dell 968, then go to CURRENTCONTROLSET, same thing delete anything hidden that says dell 968, whether that be fax or printer.
8, now go to the last classification, HKEY>CURRENT CONFIGURATION>SYSTEM>PRINTERS, delete hidden dell 968 folders.
9.were finished with registry editor, this all for now, wait for further instructions,
yes im back, this will be the final set of instructions,
1. right click the start (pearl icon) click explore, find LOCAL DRIVE C:/ , right click and explore,
2. find system32 folder, double click it, then find spool folder, double click it too, then you will see folders, concentrate to drivers folder>W32x86, delete anything under that W32x86 folder, and then go back and find PRTPROCS folder, delete anything under that folder too..
3. now go back to the first thread, under the instructions in going to the services.msc, you must restart print spooler three times, and dldo device three times too, if you do have a lexbce server on the services local list, you must right click and disable lexbce server.
4, now restart your computer, and load the disk for your printer, install it using personal installation, dont connect the printers usb cable yet unless youre told to do so,
the installation will just prompt you to connect the usb cable, and make sure the printer is turned on when you connect the usb cable, now the installatio should proceed, and just follow until it goes to saying congratulations set up complete, DONOT click the test page box, just hit finish. and wait because the ALL IN ONE CENTER will come up, then when ALL IN ONE CENTER is up, you may now, close it and try to print your doc, only one page for now, click the print button only once to avoid multiple print jobs on memory..
thats the last step, if it doesnt work, reinstall driver ONLY, never try the firmware, you dont need it anymore, only the driver., make sure the driver you had is compatible to your vista version, 32 bit or 64 bit, you can check it by right clicking computer icon and properties, OS version and bit version should say that. because on the support.dell.com>drivers and downloads section it will ask you for what vista bit version you are downloading,
im the one who posted the solution but heres what i will tell and observed, theres just only one step solution,, that is to manually add the printer and not installing it using the cd or downloaded driver, so heres the steps
1. go to printers and faxes.
2. right click the white background and click add printer.
choose local printer and scroll down to usb virtual printer port,
then it will ask you to find the specific driver for the printer, go to local drive c: go to Dell folder, and then open drivers folder, and you will see your printer model, open that folder and find the .inf files under the drivers folder. and click it. it should manually install the printer, you may now try to print and see if that works, thats new copy should be the new printer default icon.
