got a new U2410 and like it very much. But for Videoediting I tried to calibrate it but when use the Hue controls in the user setup the image is getting worse. It looks like a posterize effect or artifacts like macro blocking in video.
Is this a known problem and will it be fixed in the coming firmware update? Maybe it has also something to do with the dithering probs. If not the monitor is unusable for me for video editing.
Thanks for help.
Other users have complained about that effecrt as soon as you change the gamma on the Standard and custom presets, try to look at this test:
http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gradient.php
while you change the HUE, the gradient should show no banding (posterize) or very little of it.
I know what you are talking about because I tried to calibrate the monitor in custom mode with the help of a colorimeter, but I had to conclude that the CUSTOM MODE IS COMPLETELY USELESS. The posterize effect is expecially evident when you make changes to the blue hue. I also noticed that custom mode comes with a pathetic 0.3 cd/m^2 black point and any calibration attempt (regardless of the software used) produces a DeltaE > 10. So... this is the situation:
sRGB and aRGB modes have the dithering issue
standard mode comes with a 1.8 native gamma (and calibration to 2.2 produces banding)
custom mode is USELESS (for other confirmations looks at the tftcentral.co.uk review)
maybe the dithering issue will be solved with a new firmware, but you will have to ask for an exchange and there is an extremly high probability that you will get a monitor with a very noticeable color shifting.
Considering that they decided to ignore the green/pink tint issue ("Exchanges will no longer be offered for this complaint since a dispatch of another display will not solve the issue as this is a normal panel characteristic and not a hardware failure") and the 1.8 gamma in standard mode ("This was determined to be error on the customer side using bad calibrators. Our displays are at 2.2"), do you really think they will admit the problem?
P.S. I really like the specs and the advertised features, but the real monitor is a completely different thing!
Yes you're right. Wit the gradient test I have a strong banding when sliding the hue controls. If they won' t fix it have to send the monitor back and look for another brand that has a 6-way hue control.
Does Chris of Dell know anything about this in the new firmware?
any new information about this issue being solved in the new firmware?
I would really like to keep the monitor and love the possibility to calibrate the 6 six colors via the hue controls for video editing and grading when using the Monitor behind a video card that has no lut for calibrating like graphic cards have. I really hope this will be fixed.
Hhm, that wasn't the answer I'd like to hear. Now I had to think about returning the monitor and looking for something equal with a working 6-color hue control.
MagicMetz - Do you use software calibration? I calibrated the Adobe RGB mode using a Spyder and the results are excellent. The dithering issue in RGB modes has apparently now been fixed by Dell (see ChrisM's various posts on this). You could exchange your monitor for one with the updated firmware and then calibrate either of the RGB modes. When I calibrated, the Spyder software suggests leaving the monitor at factory default levels as this is where the monitor performs best (i.e. best balance of light output, etc.). The software then builds the appropriate calibrated profile. You shouldn't have to rely on a video card LUT to properly calibrate...
yes I know of software calibration. And I do when I use the monitor as a computer monitor. And I have perfect resultsx when calibrating the sRGB and AdobeRGB mode. But I'm talking about areal video hardware like Matrox MXO, Blackmagic or AJA, that sends the Video material to the monitor without manipulation like graphic cards do with there lut. So I have to calibrate the U2410 with its own controls. And to bring down the wide gamut to the video specific color space you need the 6-hue controls. But the don't work correctly in the U2410. And that's my problem with it.
With the gradient test I have a strong banding when sliding the hue controls. * Precisely what setting and which hue range did the problem occur is what we need.
No, because I'm on Mac OS X and have this issue while using the U2410.icc with the graficscard and also without any profil via the matrox MXO2 mini video hardware. So it doesn't make any difference with this new profile.
And sorry, I created a new account as Mahony, because the old one MagicMetz didn't work any longer. Don't know why.
Is it possible to attach some photos showing the issue?
Post pictures of the issue here. Provide the following information in your post - * The issue as you understand it = * The link to the pictures = * Operating System = * Monitor 20 digit Serial PPID number = * Monitor ports tested = * Video card = * Video card ports tested =
I can see your MagicMetz profile here. What happens when you try to log into it?

Ok, I uploaded some pictures here:

Showing the behavior of my U2410 when using the Hue controls in Custom Mode. The Green/Red Tint you see is not really there, it's a case of my iPhone Camera I used to make them.
First pic - sliders are untouched gradient is smooth and nice, in the other pictures you see what happens when using the controls. Comparing the two Pics of the sky you see what it looks like when hue is adjusted and I play back video from Final Cut or any other Videosuite over the Matrox Mxo2 mini hardware connected over HDMI. I hope you can see the macro blocking in the clouds.

I really hope this issue is not with all U2410 or maybe it is also gone with the new firmware so that I can exchange the monitor.
Yes the old profile is still there. But I can only log in to my dell account not to the community. Saying something's wrong with the credentials. But I don't know what it could be. I#m going to use this Account in the future.

I do not see it in the list of fixes.

Would testing the new U2410 ICM make a difference?

Are there any news regarding this problem?
Is the 2410 still a good choice for low cost monitoring with a mxo2 for example?
