HOWTO: get the IR remote to work on a Studio 1735 after upgrading to Windows 7

Question

After I (in-place) upgraded my Studio 1735 from Vista SP2 to Win7, the supplied IR remote stopped working. With the help of Dell's support I discovered the existence of a new driver: R232292  - ITE IT8512 CIR Receiver, v.5.0.4.7(Vista) and 5.1.0.1(Win7 ), A00 Infrared Receiver Driver   First uninstall the existing driver using Device Manager and install the new one.   Everything works for me except for the 'Dell MediaDirect' key on the remote. Not a big deal as I don't use that app. Media Center, volume control, Windows Media Player controls, all work like a charm.   HTH

hi there - I'm having trouble finding this in Device Manager.  What does it show up as?   thanks

After upgrading to Windows 8 the remote had stopped working again. I fixed that as follows:

- uninstalled the existing driver via Device Manager

- install R227772 (from www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails), using Windows 7 compatibility mode (otherwise you get "Unsupported operating system")

It shows up as   ITECIR Infrared Receiver (EC)   under   Human Interface Devices
