You will need a MIDI/USB adapter such as THIS from Musicians Friend.   Local music stores such as Guitar Center or Sam Ash probably carry them in stock.

I didn't think Audacity would record MIDI ??  You probabably will need some other MIDI software.

Fireberd -- I cross-posted with you because I was looking at the WK200 manual. It has a usb port so I don't think it would use the adapter cables you provided a link to.

Use a standard usb cable -- one end goes into the usb port of the WK200 and the other end goes into the usb port of the computer. In the audio properties the Casio should show up as "usb audio device". Instructions on having the device recognized by the computer are in the WK200 manual.

Audacity does not support playing, recording, or editing MIDI files so I'm not sure how you intend to use it.

Jim, I didn't look at the manual for the keyboard.  He asked about MIDI and the reason I posted the info about the MIDI to USB.  I assumed he knew what he had and what he needed.

Jim,

We get issues where the user doesn't fully state what they need or are using and that throws off the answers.  Not just in this case but there's a lot of problems that when we finally get to the "bottom" of the issue we find out it's totally different or that the user installed or uninstalled something and that's what caused the problem.  We can only go, initiallly, with what the user posts.

I'm going off line for a while.  I have a recording session in about an hour.  This will be the "acid test' for my Windows 7 64 bit installation and Sonar 8.5 (Producer) and my hardware interface.  As far as I know everything checks out and is working, including my Frontier "Tranzport" wireless DAW controller, but until I actually do a recording I won't know.  Luckily this Windows 7 install was a "clean" install on a separate hard drive and I've got my Vista/Sonar installation (on a separate drive and a dual boot with Windows 7) to fall back on if I have problems.

Jack, this is funny. Here is where xan517 got the idea he or she needed to use Audacity. The problem is that xan517's questions are too vague.

xan517, you need to state more clearly exactly what you are trying to do. Spell it out and then fireberd will be able to tell you exactly how to accomplish it.

Jack,

I know. But when I looked at the manual the keyboard does not have standard midi ports, but instead has a usb port and uses usb to transfer midi information. It requires an A-B type usb cable.

Sorry about the confusion. Between the time I started to reply and then did reply there was a time lag and I missed seeing your post.

xan517,

You really should look at the manual, the section "Connecting External Devices/Connecting a Computer" because there is a certain process you have to follow to get the configuration right.

To record midi on the computer you need a midi sequencer program. I am unfamiliar with the free ones, but you can find some by googling like this one: MuseScore. I use Cakewalk's Sonar program and I think Fireberd does too. It is very good but expensive.

You can use Audacity to record the audio produced by the keyboard.
