If you unplug the printer from the wall and remove the power brick for 60 seconds, this will reset any error messages the printer has. I would then plug everything back in.
Power on the printer.
Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 5 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 5 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.
Any error messages?
black cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)
photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)
I followed the instructions on how to correct an allignment problem on a 964. My printer prints, but every fourth or fifth line "jiggles" out of allignment and when I do an allignment check it gives me the error message about an allignment problems and checking the tape on the cartridge. I resently installed a new Black series 5 cartridge hoping that would help.
A new thread would be nice so we don't confuse your issue with the other persons issues. Dell Printers Forum Maybe if you scan the results to an image, then click on the blue flashing PudgyOne, You can host the image at imageshack and use the filmslide and copy and paste the direct link to the new thread. A picture of the image can tell stories.
Other forum members recently tried putting tape over the part where the ink comes out, then placing the cartridges in the printer. The error message is still there. They then took out the cartridges and removed the tape. When they put the cartridges back in, they seemed to work. I cannot guarentee this works or not.
Thanks for the info. I tried this protocol a few times and still got the same error message: Alignment problem, verify tape removed from cartridge, run a few cleaning cycles or troubleshoot.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.
Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.
It's possible to get a Dell Series 5 ink cartridge with a bad sensor. I would that these back to the place of purchase for a replacement or a refund.

I did the precending, but the printer prints...but a blank page rolls out. Alignment page is blank, and cart... cleaning page is blank.
Printer is going thru the motions but nothing is coming out.
What do you think?

HI Rick,
Thanks for the info. I tried this protocol a few times and still got the same error message: Alignment problem, verify tape removed from cartridge, run a few cleaning cycles or troubleshoot.
How do I do a cleaning cycle?
Thanks,
Lotchie
