PowerEdge server shipping delays?

Anyone know what in the world is up with shipping delays on PowerEdge servers?  I ordered a PowerEdge R610 back on December 2, 2009.  It was originally supposed to ship on December 17 via 2-day shipping.  This was part of the plan, as we had scheduled some general downtime/maintenance windows over the holiday and New Year period when usage is light.  On December 16th, Dell notified me that it was delayed to December 26.  Then on the 26th, they said it was delayed until January 5.  Then yesterday (January 1), they delayed it to January 12.

This level of incompetence with supply chain planning is maddening!  I've been a faithful Dell customer for many years.  This new low is forcing me to evaluate other hardware vendors.

Has anyone else been experiencing horrible shipping delays?

We have the same problem on a Power Edge server ordered December 18th, 2009.

Delivery date has moved from December 29th (same idea about transition during the holidays) to January 7th, to as of today... unknown delayed delivery date.

After speaking multiple times to the DELL customer non-service department (you know the punjabi's in India with fake western names) we have no confidence that DELL has any clue whatsoever about when they can deliver a new server. Their best recommendation was to cancel the order and place it again (yeah right...) I told them that if it doesn't arrive this week we will place a new order...but this time it will be for an HP server.

We have a 20 employee company and order at least 5 new desktops a year, plus a new server every 4 years. None of that will be done with DELL ever again. If anyone out their has a need for a new server, and it is mission critical don't waste your time with DELL. They will let you down every ime. Does anyone out there own a business that can wait 8+ weeks for someone to slap 2 hard drives in a metal case???  Apparenty DELL thinks we all should.

DELL has completely lost its credibility as a supplier to small and midsized business. Perhaps they should have thought about the customer impact before outsourcing manufacturing to the cheapest providers. Low prices + Never delivered = NO DELL Customers.

We have the same problem on a PowerEdge T100.  It was ordered on 11-23-09.  First ship date:  11-25-09.  On 23-18-09 rec'd. notice that order would ship on 12-29-09.  After a telephone call to Dell, order was "expedited" and new ship date was 12-23-09.  Then, rec'd. notice of 01-06-10 ship.  On 01-06-10, rec'd notice of 01-13-09 ship date.  Have heard various stories from Dell, as follows:  1) a North Carolina plant closed and production moved to Mexico where they are incapable of keeping up with order volume; 2) they are waiting for a processor; 3) they don't have the "chassy screws" they need.  This looks very much like a company that is on its way out.  Their tradition of excellent customer service which was the reason so many of us have been loyal customers seems to be a thing of the past.  American companies don't seem to understand that we do some things better than our Indian and Mexican counterparts.

I am having the exact same problem. I have 3 seperate large orders with Dell Computers and I am furious at the level of NO SUPPORT and NO Information. My Poweredge T610 has been delayed 3 times so far. My client is really upset and I will likely never order another PC from DELL.  I originally ordered the server on 12-08, this has been delayed 3 times since. Why can't they just say " We cannot fulfill this order?", instead of blowing smoke for over 1 month.

This is so frustrating to me I can barely put this into words.I love how my sales rep just tells me, "Sorry, but you can cancel if you want." Apparently, the economy is not as bad as people think. Dell makes so much money that they can easily afford to dispose of customers like myself. I have ordered over $30K worth of computers from them in the last 2 months alone. The problem is that now my order of 12 workstations will have to have an HP server to go along with it, since they cannot seem to get a Dell server put together.

If you send me your order number in a private message, I will look and see there are any listed reasons for the delays.

So Dennis, What did you find out? I sent you my order number a couple of days ago.

We were able to get the e-mail address for the Regional Marketing Director for the "Gold Team".  I would suggest doing the same--our order was filled and whipped with 48 hours.  Amazing.

Well, lets see. This is a prime example of what I was complaining about. 5 or 6 days have passed. My server has yet to ship, I receive cancellation notices from Dell on a daily basis, but don't get any answers. Does Dell still sell servers or what? This item was ordered Dec 8th for crying out loud.

This is very, very poor customer service and is precisely why Dell will not be where my next $30K deal will go.

I wish I could treat people this way and continue to have a job. You guys are lucky.

We're in the same boat. The last three orders of R610's, R710's are averaging 20-25 business days to even ship. Over the past 3 years we routinely would get servers in 8 business days very reliably. Very disappointing and makes it tough to do business with no servers. I’m surprised there aren’t more posts it’s a hot subject at our Data Centers with clients. Must be some big supply or production issues but this has been happening since the beginning of November.

Just in case anyone's wondering whether these manufacturing delays are still ongoing--yes, they are.  We ordered two PE T710's on 1/26 and got an estimated ship date of 2/12.  We never received any "order delayed" email, so it was only today--2/12--when I checked on the order, that I learned that estimated ship date was pushed back to 3/03.  I don't know when that actually happened, but since our client's IT upgrades were planned to start over the weekend, or next week, it would have been nice to know before today.  Our Dell sales rep must be tired of providing explanations; his response this morning was pretty lame.  Now that I've Googled "Dell server delays" and read what's all over the Web, I'm kinda wondering why he didn't mention the risk of delay when we ordered the servers and paid extra for overnight delivery.

The delays continue. My company is an IT consulting firm and we purchases 10's of thousands of dollars worth of equipment each year. We have one order we purchased back on January 6th and we have still yet to receive the item.  We have a couple recent orders we placed one was actually timely but two server orders I placed have an estimated arrival date of the end of next month.

My business is taking off and I am getting new clients almost everyday now. If this poor delivery continues I will be moving my business to HP.

I ordered a DELL T310 on 11 JAN 2010 and the delivery estimate has changed repeatedly to 11 MAR 2010. Not sure if this will be honoured by DELL. Looks like DELL's performance in support and services is not good any more as I am seeing similay delay in many Forums. I had dell Poweredge 1800 just a month back and had a wonderful experiance with dell support.

I am worried my Server Delivery may be delayed again. Does dell even see these as issues with so many customers complaining.

My delivery is updayed again as delayed till 18 Mar 2010.

Order Date :                    11 Feb 2010

First Delay Update:       04 Mar 2010

Second Delay Update: 11 Mar 2010

I too believed in DELL service but now have my doubts if this is a customer service/server they can support any more.
