It is very normal for a new system.  When you order a newly introduced system, there are usually delays.   A shortage of black covers and Blu-ray drives seem to be holding things up.  My Zino was ordered 11/27 and has been rescheduled from 12/17 to 1/06.  I ordered a black lid but no blu-ray.

I am also furious as I ordered an inspiron 1545 : Pentium Dual Core T4300 as a Christmas present for my kids which should have arrived by the 18th December.  My credit account was deducted the full amount on the 9th of December and now they tell me there is a delay with an estimated date of 1st Jan.  Has anyone any contacts or connections that can help?  Otherwise I have to go out and buy something else....

My Zino order has been delayed since the 18th of November, it's new estimated shipping date is the 6th of January.  I am NOT happy.  So no, unfortunately you are not the only one with this issue.

I ordered the zino on Nov 19 which gave me a estimated shipping date of Dec 11.  They extended it to Dec 18 and then to 29.  After reading your blog, I am now leaning towards purchasing another brand since the customer service rep is of no help.  You, at least, received an email from them delaying your product, but I did not receive that courtesy notification.  I had to call Dell who had me on the phone for about 30 mins, only to tell me the same info that is on the website with no reasonable explanation.  What are they paying these customer service rep for if, all they do, is read what is posted on the wesite.  I can do the same thing.

Thanks to everyone who posted.  I don't feel like a lone ranger anymore.  I have to wait for it.  Unlike most folks I don't have the option of going with another brand.  This is not my first Dell, its my third or fourth and probably my last.    Thanks to all who responded.  I think outsourcing is sticking it to this country!  I hate outsourcing and by the way I don't live to far from Round Rock where I think Dell is located.

I purchased my first Dell in 1991 and have probably purchased fifteen or twenty systems for my own use since then.  I like Dells.  I think they have a great website with all the information anyone would need to make an educated decision.  I like that I can configure a system just the way I want it.  I have had great luck with Dells.

Dell does not keep systems on the shelf waiting for our orders.  Dell is a "just in time" manufacturer and must rely on its suppliers to deliver on time. They build to our specs when our orders are received.  Sometimes its suppliers do not deliver on time and delays occur especially if you are ordering a system that was just introduced.  I experienced delays on my XPS 435T, my 14Z, and now my Zuni HD.  That is the nature of the beast.

Also, Christmas is crunch time at Dell.  Order early and avoid the heartbreak or buy a system in a retail outlet to ensure that you have it for Christmas.

Dell's customer service is terrible.  We have all been transferred from one rep to another ad infinitum.  We have all been hung up on.  My suggestions is to take your time when you do your research and make sure you are ordering what you want.  Avoid mistakes so you do not have to call Dell.  That has worked well for me over the years and that will help avoid many of the problems.  Dell has a great product but they've become too big for their own britches!

Do you enjoy Windows 7.  I've heard good things about it and my relative is having massive trouble with it.  He has a laptop.

Windows 7 is the best OS ever.  If your relative installed it over another operating system, problems are not unusual.  Formatting the hard drive and installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 to an empty hard drive is always much more trouble free.

Dell does put out awsome computers and monitors.  I bought my first one in 2000 (or was it 1999) and loved it till it crashed and wouldn't accept any more upgrades.  This one came along in October 2002 and has lasted 7 years but is on its last leg now.  I'm still just running XP Home on it.  It was so old that it would not pass compatibility tests for Vista!  I've not had to call Dell since early 2000 or 2001.  I wanted help with a crash and they said if it was software related (they thought it was) that my home repair waranty wouldn't help so someone else helped me.  The one who usually helps me (a relative) with tech stuff was out of the country at the time.  I also like the ability to customise the computer.  I looked long and hard before settling on a Zino.  I don't have alot of room for a new PC so I wanted either something small or that all in one PC with a 24 inch monitor.  I need a big monitor.  I wanted Windows 7 but that all in one with a larger monitor just came with Vista SP1 and not Windows 7.  I even chatted with sales three different times to check on that.  I had help with the customization, too.

I finnaly checked out on Sunday, November 29 so I could avoid the Cyber Monday rush!  My cart had been waiting for a couple of weeks.  I had to confirm some stuff to make sure the order was correct.

I now have part of the order:  the V313w blue printer, some greeting card software, a router and a surge protector.  No PC yet.  I even got this mostly ready for a few of my files to go onto the new PC.  I'm waiting till March so I can call the tech to install the new one and then I have to figure out what to do with this old one.

You said "Dell has a great product but they've become too big for their own britches!" and I totally agree!

Sawaddi,

I'm glad you love the OS.  I heard from others who love it, too.  My brother had it pre-installed by Dell in November.  I don't know all the problems but I know the BSOD is one and so are many incompatibility issues since it 64 bit and his older stuff was like mine just 32 bit.

If you have old peripherals, e.g printers, scanners, etc. you have to go to the manufacture's website and download the 64bit drivers and any updated software.  It is important that you do not just use old driver/software CDs that came with your peripheral as they are way out-of-date. Most BSODs are driver related.  Older versions of Microsoft Office and other normal applications are no problem.

I ordered a new Zuni through Dell on 22 November, bundled with a few upgrades that totalled $664.  Delivery date was given as 14 December.  Great, as that was just in time for Christmas.  But 14 December came and went, no email from Dell telling me the order was delayed until I checked the website.  Now it said 30 December as the estimated delivery date.  Rats.  When I checked again yesterday the website delayed it further to 7 January.  I called to cancel and the Indian lady wanted to know why I was cancelling and I said, as the truth, "This was supposed to be a Christmas present and the recipient isn't going to be here anymore on that date to receive it."

I am so disappointed in this.  I'm disappointed that Dell never sent me an email to let me know of the delivery changes, I'm disappointed in that Dell didn't seem pleased with my cancellation, and I'm disappointed in the entire customer service experience.  I'm only glad that I was able to buy something else from another company that was able to deliver a replacement present on time.

I doubt I will ever buy from Dell again.  The company gladly takes your money but you get no service in return, let alone a product!

Same as me.. Ordered Nov 18th and estimated shipping is Jan 6. I've been using Dell for personal and business uses. This is by far the worst service I have noticed over 10+ years with Dell. I'm very much disappointed with Dell and this will be the last time I order anything from Dell. I'll probably switch to HP.

I got an email from Dell today saying that they did in fact honor my cancellation at no added charge.  But still, what should have been a cool C'mas present turned out to be a big disappointment.

I, too have ordered from Dell in the past and have never had such awful service as with this Zuni-be-gone.  Although my older Dells were all well-made (my laptop lasted three years before it died), Dell's current workforce has all been outsourced and the quality just isn't there anymore.

My second laptop was a Toshiba...excellent!  You may want to check them out before looking at HP.

Meanwhile, there are many websites out there now lambasting the customer service of Dell, especially in regards to this new Zuni.  This looks like a bad marketing flop on Dell's side...you can't advertise a product and then claim "Ooops, our distributors haven't delivered their parts on time!"  Seems like Dell needs to take a look inward and fire some top-level personnel if they want to stay competitive.

Outsourcing is killing this country and alot of the quality we come to expect!  I'm just waiting for my Zino until Feb.  However, I hope it is not delayed once again.  Last week Dell sent me email and wanted a review of the three items I have hear just waiting for the new machine.  I just deleted it.  The nerve of them.  I can't use htose new products for they are for a 64bit machine and this one is a dinosaur with only a 32bit processor.  Needless to say they did not get a review from me!  They are almost down to their last one of the XPS One but anyway it doesn't yet have Windows 7 and probably never well.  As far as I know Microsoft does not have a product red for windows 7.

If you have not received an order confirmation email, you should call Dell ASAP.
