With two having the same problem, I suspect the Xfi MB software is not fully Win 7 compatible.  We are seeing Win 7 compatibility issues with the SoundBlaster Xfi line of sound cards in the Desktop section.  SoundBlaster has a Beta Win 7 driver for the Xfi models that they are going to support (only the current models, not the discontinued models) and that seems to be working in Win 7 and it also fixes the problem of popping and crackling audio if the PC has more than 3GB of RAM.

As the Xfi MB is an OEM software enhancement, there is no updates available on the Creative (SoundBlaster) support site.

Has anyone tried installing the Xfi MB in the Vista compatibility mode?  That may be one workaround.  I had to install my recording studio DAW control surface in the Vista compatibility mode, as it wouldn't install in Windows 7.

Did you install the audio driver first?  The Xfi MB is only a software enhancement to the audio.

I'm having the same issue as well on my Studio 14z - however, I did an upgrade to Win 7 instead of clean install.  Prior to upgrade, X-Fi was working just fine.  I also noticed the Dell Win7 upgrade package updating my sound card drivers and applying the X-Fi MB patch but now when I try to access the audio control panel I get "no audio device supported".  You would think Dell would have tested this before release...

Unfortunately I see no patches/fixes on Dell's product support/download site...

Still waiting...

Yes ofcourse I have the IDT Audio driver installed.

I just cannot figure out why X-fi isn't working in Windows 7, it was working great on Vista x64.

Thanks

Try uninstalling the program and rebooting.  Windows 7 will find the drivers online and deliver them to, I think, Windows Update.  I had a problem with Xi-Fi in Win7 32bit and this worked for me.

ah yes that did it. I installed/ran setup.exe in Vista SP2 compatibility mode, and X-Fi MB is working good now.

Thanks, good day :)

Did you all get a disk for the X-Fi MB software with a key or did you download it? The reason I ask is our 1555 has it pre installed but did not come with a disk and I remember a system sometime back came with a disk and a key.

I did not get a disk.  I had to talk to about 10 different Dell reps before I finally got someone that understood what I needed.  You have to make it very clear to them that you are looking for the software enhancment X-Fi MB CD.  Otherwise they will direct you to the actual X-Fi hardware drivers.  This might help - Dell part number 0C961H...

Thats strange coz I got the CD and key along with my laptop. You are purchasing X-Fi MB software, how can they send you just the software pre-installed, backup CD's are a part of the purchase. They might have missed it somehow. You'll need to contact them to get the CD.

Some one please help me out. The Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi MB software stopped working, one of the DELL agents deleted the software folders manually then uninstalled it. And he messed up my entire system. I didn't get the software cd with it. I am having to send several emails to Creative to get a key and the software, but no success. What do I do? Someone please help me out.

What you need to do is contact Dell Tech Support and inform them that you did not receive the software CD for the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi MB and they will ship it to you for free as long as you have purchased it when you bought your computer. It will also contain the Registration Key on the CD Jacket so you do not even need to call or contact Creative.

To reinstall it on Windows 7 you need to install it in Windows Vista 64 Compatibility Mode.

May be this would help:

(not only for this particular problem but for other similar issues of softwares acting as drivers)

If you look in your c:\ drive of Windows 7, you will find 2 folders named 'Program files'. One is the default 'program files' and the other would be X-86 architecture program files for X-86 architecture (32 bit softwares) softwares.

Thing is that this particular software might be trying to install to the Program files to the X-86 architecture folder (that is for 32 bit programs) , whereas your Windows 7 OS would be looking for the driver files and software in the default C:\program files (64 bit) folder.

Maybe thats why you are getting an error: "Device not found".

Try and force the software to install in the deafult c:\program files folder and your sound should work fine.

Plz let me know if this simple trick works.

Studio 1555 should I have 2 audio devices listed in Device Manager,

http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookworm/My%20Hardware/My%20hardware.jpg

the audio stutters and crackles when an audio cd is loaded, or burned. The 2 solutions listed by dell do not work, I have had the laptop 3 weeks and has been a problem from the start. The aidio driver is the latest listed on the Dell download site.

Any help appreciated.
