Inspiron 1750 making high pitch squeal

Question

I set up an Inspiron 1750 for a friend with Windows 7 Home Premium just recently. Late last night his son was poking around in 'Control Panel' [apparently he doesn't remember what he was clicking on] and suddenly he had a very high-pitched squeal emanating from the speakers. They rebooted the computer a couple times to no effect. They also said that the DVD bay kept closing and opening on it's own [with no disk in]. I have never run across anything like this and am not sure where to head in at. Last night I did install an update to the 'Dell DataSafe Online' software, set up their home network and homegroup for them. It is on a home network sharing with an XP Home Edition computer.   Any help would be highly appreciated.

Things you could try are

System Restore (Page 52 of the Inspiron 1750 Setup Guide)

Post on the DVD Board

Run Dell Diagnostics (Page 47 of the Inspiron 1750 Setup Guide)

Use Factory Image Restore (Page 53 of the Inspiron 1750 Setup Guide)

Thanks. I don't have the computer with me right now, but I'll try those options when I get it later today. I think the first thing I'll do is check events to see if there is some kind of problem code.
