Hey,

this is my test i made with mine.

I have bought my laptop in Germany, this i a ST1747 with FULL HD screen, two 320 GB (7200 rpm) hard disks, core i7 720QM and a 90W poer supply. A have already done the A05 BIOS update, too. I have a Windows 7 64 bit installed.

I used the following SWs for testing:

 - ATI Tool (scan for artifacts)

 - Intel Burn Test with 8 threads

 - CPU-Z for monitoring CPU speed

If i NOT use ATI Tool, just the Burn Test for stressing, the CPU speed drops down around to 1600 MHz, multiplier 11-12, mainly 12. CPU temperature is affordable. If i also start ATI Tool 8artifact scan, all defaults), the multiplier drops down 7-9, mainly 8.

If i try these test with battery, CPU does NOT throttle down below 1400 MHz, running ATI Tool parrallel.

I use my laptop NOT for gaming, so with 90W power supply the CPU works as specification desribes it( almost).

But this throttling issue with full load is still an unresolved problem!!!

I can hardly believe this problem can be resolved without a mainboard redesign.

Hi Studio users!

I have been around on several Dell sites, and none of them have any BIOS A05 anymore.. it lasted for less than 3 days??? Now there is a roll back to A04??

Pls Dell - what about users...do they have to roll back to A04 if they installed the A05? We need information about this issue!!

Now I´ll give you a couple of days - then i have to cancel my order.. This is not a fair way to treat us!

Peter

welcome at Dell Online support

Dells information policy here is a shame... for some time, I report the experiences here at my German hardware luxx ST1747-thread (only ~2900 replies and~170.000 hits). Dell I hope you can imagine that your constantly "let-the-customers-left-out-in-the-rain"-proceeding here is a  "quite good" promotion for you!(?) :emotion-40:

AX-Turbo,

I'm sorry that you feel like we're not providing enough information, but as Brad pointed out in this blog post on Thursday afternoon we are looking into several different issues.   That process will take time and while we wish we had immediate resolutions that just simply isn't possible. I really we wish had concrete information to pass along.

As always, we'll continue to post verified information here on the Dell Forms and on Direct2Dell.

All you have done is just aggravate your customers further by this reply.

Absolutely! I am so close to cancelling my Studio 1747 order because of the rescinding of the A05 BIOS update without explanation. It gives me the impression that it was released without proper testing. I'm have lost so much faith in a company I once thought did things right. Your customers deserve far better.

If as you say, Dell is looking into the issues, how about instead Dell officially saying they are sorry for not testing their product intensively and promise to make good. All you have done is just aggravate your customers further by this reply. BE HONEST, Dell was just too eager to get its i7 on the market. Will other PC manufacturers suffer the same fate, time will tell but at the moment its just you. I was thinking after withdrawing my Studio i7 order to choose a Duo package instead but your graphics card is getting a bit long in the tooth.( This has also been stated in PC reviews). Whom ever is doing your market and research needs sacking whilst you still have a name with some good history. Alternatively, carry on as you are and ignore your customers.

Hi! It's my first message on this forum.

I ordered a Studio 1747 on the French Dell website with Blu-ray and Full HD screen. A guy on a French forum called Dell and they said that he had to cancel his order because of the Full HD screen. Todd, is that true that those who ordered a Full HD screen will never receive it ?

If it's true, Dell is the worst reseller ever! It's my first laptop and with all what I can read on different forums I'm really disappointed. Can you keep your promises ?

@Todd ok I´m sorry I hadn´t detected this blog post before you posted the link...

Netherless many users want to know why Dell had removed the A05 BIOS from ST1447 driver page, two days after it was published? Almost everyone made a update to it and now all are afraid that something was wrong with it (although it runs fine till now, not so heavy throttling - best version since A01!). I hope that you or Brad spend us a short declaration about the reason.

Not true. I ordered mine also via dell.fr on December (minus bluray drive but with the 1920x1080 resolution) and I received 3 weeks after placing my order. Haven't had any problems so far, also using A05.

To mr.Brad L. I am Argentine but I'm living in Spain. Dell no longer has the credibility to many consumers. This is due Dell does not maintain a clear communication policy with whom spend our money in this company. For almost 100 years, the "New theory of public relations" (Dell seems not know this theory, which was born in the united state) said that when a company has a problem, the problem must be recognized quickly and keeping customers must be constantly informed. It is the only way to cope de problems. Mr Brad, i can assure that the company you work for, is not doing it. Is not being clear. And many questions arise in the mind of the consumer. In my particular case, I´m one persons more (in Spain, many people is doing it) than has already canceled the order with Dell. Dell not only has put on the market a product with a very poor quality control, but that do not face its responsibility as it should be. I was Buyer of Dell products since 1990, and now I do not want more products from Dell.
