All ATI X1300, X1400 and nVidia 7300s used Hyper/Turbo memory - half the RAM is shared system RAM.  All such systems were clearly marked as such on the specification page.  Yes, Dell has shipped true 256M video systems - these were not among them.  Neither were any of these shipped by other manufacturers.

Why are you blaming Dell for your failure to read the specifications, and understand what you were buying?

You're negligent - Dell was not.

It is true that the system was marked ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 256MB Hyper Memory.  Unfortunately most people who shop Dell's site do not know the difference NOR does Dell in anyway explain it.  You simply check the box for the 128MB gpu or the 256MB gpu.

I did do some research before buying it... let me assure you Dell did not state anywhere that the x1400 had only 128Mb of memory (and that the rest was taken from the system memory).  I will concede that if I had been "in the know" i probably wouldn't have made the mistake of buying the latop but i'm not in the tech business at all so why would I have known that info.  ALL the places I looked DID NOT spell that out.

As I stated in my previous post Dell was advertising one thing and selling another, no where during the process did it say that it was shared memory... I was fully aware at the time of the purchase that Dell sold some actual 256MB systems.  Dell's failure was to allow customers to think this was one of them.

I ran CPUID on 2 two dell laptops a 1501 and 6400 with the exact same Graphics. One is  has an Intel i945PM chipset and 82801GHM Southbridge with a T2050 core duo and the other has ATI Xpress 200(RS480) chipset  and ATI SB600 southbridge with a AMD Turion 64 2GHz. One said it had 128mb and the other said 256mb for video memory.  I thought I had be seeing things when I saw that I had only 128mb of memory after upgrading the OS to windows 7.

Even though you cant download this from dell you can get it from AMD. It was a little tricky to do but I had sucess installing catalyst 8.3 on both , information center reports memory size now is 895mb hypermemory with 2GB of RAM installed on both. I have screen shots of both units. TBH this turion is actually faster then the intel core duo even tho its a single core and a cheaper model, goo figure.
