I have a question. I have had my Inspiron 530s for over a year and have never used it to play CD. Im trying to play a cd rom now but it wont. I guesss I didn t relaize that it only plays dvds. This makes me angry. :emotion-39: Why? Is there a way I can add a seperate cd rom player? Its the same system that I had when I got it originally.

It doesn't (/shouldn't) just play DVD's. All DVD drives can (/should) also play CD's.
Don't quote me on it, but I *believe* they use separate lasers for reading CD and DVD discs, so it's possible the CD laser is faulty?
But since the Inspiron 530S is a desktop system, you can either add another DVD±RW drive - if there's a spare 5.25" drive bay, or replace the faulty drive with a new DVD±RW drive - if there's no spare drive bay.
As you can see here, new 22x/24x DVD±RW drives are available for around US$30, so it's not an expensive replacement.
Newegg appear to have a 'thing' for black drives though? Silver drives - or even standard beige drives, look to be few and far between, which isn't ideal if you have a silver or beige case?
Anyways... FWIW... my personal favourite optical drive manufacturers, are Pioneer, LG, +/or Samsung :emotion-5:

Hello,
Any recent changes to your system?
New version of Windows, or reinstalled?
