[Confirmed Issue] IDT Audio Application is broken [Win7 64bit]

The current IDT audio driver Application for windows 7 64bit really needs to be fixed. It's making my Skype as well as my audio system unusable. The sound cuts out after a while (most notable after attempting to use Skype) and volume mixer constantly hangs and crashes when or after Skype has been opened.

Only remedy is to uninstall the driver and use the default Windows supplied drivers, but this kills the ability to use the second headphone jack. I have to literally choose between having a second headphone jack or not having Skype.

Also, I know this is a driver issue because this issue has arisen even after I've done a full clean installation of Windows 7 from the ground up, and after installing the IDT control panel, the problems from the previous installation came back.

This needs to be fixed. I have a Dell Studio 1555.

EDIT: I also can confirm that this EXACT SAME ISSUE is present on my friend's XPS 1530 that also has Win7 64 bit. It's the IDT application, no doubt about it.

Well, it sort of works, it has fixed the skype freezing issue (mainly), but I still find that my entire computer will just halt occasionally and I have to kill Skype.exe for anything to get going again quickly. What we found was a slight fix, but the root cause of the problem is still there and still is messing things up.

I really hope Dell sees this and corrects this.

I agree, there's some problem with the IDT driver but so far they are not acknowledging it...Had several e-mail correspondences with them.  They gave up telling me it was a software issue and I needed to call Tech support for a FEE......brand new computer, no way

Before that we went through all the reconfiguration, reinstallation etc that the first level tech usually recommends and we got nowhere causing me to search for an answer myself

I was trying to use Tweetdeck and found like you do with SKYPE that there were still intermittant issues.  None with other media programs yet.

I got a brand new computer, studio 1747, and it came preloaded with windows 7 and the IDT driver and x-Fi MB. Anyway my sound was working then suddenly the sound stopped working at all and I cannot get it back. The preboot diagnostics say that the computer is good but the audio wont play once the computer is booted.

I have a simular problem with my Studio 1555 laptop's sound. Sometimes when I turn on my laptop it would lose all sound and any applications needing sound will crash, including any games, windows media player, and even windows volume mixer. And then error message sometimes occur saying "server execution failed". It does not happen every time i turn on my computer, it sometimes happens 5 times on a day, sometimes once a week. i have this problem from day 1

Same here, running Windows 7 64 bit. Sound randomly dies, and any application using sound crashes. I don't get any system error messages, though. Only remedy is rebooting. I turned Windows effects off and it seems more stable.

However, the IDT HD Sound panel doesn't apply any sound effect: e.g. SRS on/off, no change. And virtual surround is an improvement I'd like to keep!

Thanks!!! Apparently 6217 is the last version for Studio 1555, but 6255 will work anyway.

I also understood that the IDT panel and the Windows enhancements are connected: disable sound enhanc. in Windows options, IDT won't apply. Makes sense, but should be stated more clearly!

Maybe related, sounds often start with a "popping" noise :(

i have the dell studio 1535. i have a similar problem to yours, i ran the windows 7 installer from dell, and the install crashes. no message or anything, it just locks up. i am stuck with the windows 7 basic driver for sound :(  never buying a machine with IDT audio again, and dell obviously doesn't care about its customers much.

The IDT Driver is definitely broken  Big-time!

I'm having the same issue (Dell Latitude E6400 XFR, Windows 7 Prof. 64 bit)..

Winamp, Firefox,  started getting crashy & then the whole system went  south in a hurry.... I had to restore.(lame)

I read in one of the many threads that Adobe flash & shockwave might be lending itself to the problem So I yanked them out too. (I Miss Winamp Though!)

After Uninstalling Winamp, Flash, Shockwave & re-installing the Dell IDT driver... at least I can use Skype again.. HOWEVER... I absolutely can't have any other speakers plugged in or it gets all screwy again. The only reason I'm having some success I think is my Skype headset is USB, but again if I plug in my speakers it gets nasty.

I Would really LOVE to install the INTEL driver & have tried a hundred different ways at no avail.... If "Anyone Out There" can somehow find a workaround to install this driver I know many folks would be happy!

This is a really top notch page explaining what the problem stems from & how to fix it... if you are lucky enough to have an INTEL Motherboard/Desktop...  GREAT INFO>

I'm not very happy about this whole thang. Somehow during all this my Western Digital 540GB External USB failed with ALL my mp3's  =/

For those of you still struggling with the IDT Chipset driver.. I have found some answers.. to what caused MY issue at least. This is a copy of a post from a different thread. Within it are links to several .PDF files on the IDT chipset itself AND pages with instructions to configure your audio to do some cool stuff.  Also, link to the Latest INTEL driver for the IDT 92HD90 which SHOULD SOLVE ALL YOUR PROBLEMS  - IF it will install. It's for DEsktops ONLY that have an INTEL motherboard & Hence... would not install on my Laptop.   ANyone who has success getting it installed please post ! I would love to hear how it works!!

<<<< >>>>>

This is still a Dell Factory Install. In the past I have always swiped my machines & then done my own clean installation, however, with this laptop, there are sooo many additional Hardware add-ons that require drivers not readily available IN windows (i.e.... Touchscreen, fingerprint reader login, etc) I decided to leave it be. also, I actually find the DELL ControlPoint application to be really handy for readily changing wireless networks & changing power options & whatnot. (I NEVER though all the DELL proprietary poop would be anything but in the way)

Service Pack 1 was already installed as well....

Since my original post I have done extensive research on the IDT 92HD90 Audio controller.. (the driver that has caused all the trouble is for this device.)  I discovered exactly what went wrong (kindof) & theoretically how to avoid it in the future provided that DELL actually updates the driver for the IDT 92HD90 on board Audio chipset.

1st off... What This chipset SUPPORTS & what I need to (&was trying to) do is "multistreaming playback"....

(Description of what multistreaming playback is..... :

"Multistreaming allows you to listen to two different audio sources on two different speaker sets. For example, you can listen to one audio source through the back panel speakers and a second audio source through front panel headphones or speakers." )

NOW.. Unfortunately I assumed that I could just plug in multiple devices & have everything magically work the way I wanted to! At worst I figured that BOTH audio outputs would play in both devices (like a sound Jumble).. then I could go from there & fix it.  What I didn't know was that there were some known issues with this (on the dell driver) & nowhere is there ANY information regarding the use of a "Headset" type of device that is USB where both Microphone (input) & Speaker (output) functionality are being used through a single port... & That port not being a dedicated audio I/O....

SO.. With Winamp playing off an external USB drive through a regular Audio out jack.. I opened Skype & Plugged in my USB Headset & All hell broke loose =)  The real bummer part of all this is somehow whatever happened at that moment fried my Western Digital External USB Hard Drive =/

I have found a driver that is much more stable & have found enough documentation for the  IDT HD Audio chipset that I am getting pretty close to having it all set up in a way where I believe it may work. I DON'T think I will attempt it with the USB Headset though.. It has taken me tooo long to get my Laptop working normally again to try that.. besides   I cannot find ANYWHERE in the documentation where Multistreaming Playback is supported through a USB device with both input & output like a headset.

Here Is a wonderful Page by INTEL describiing IN DETAIL everything that this chipset CAn & should do along with how to configure it all... Unfortunately it's all information related to DESKTOPS & not LAPTOPS which is where I have run into problems... I haven't been able to Verify that DELL has used an INTEL motherboard in my machine. WERE THAT THE CASE the latest INTEL driver should install & IT WILL NOT>  (I really really want to be able to use that driver)

Audio Info Page delineating Multistreaming playback etc..:       www.intel.com/.../CS-020642.htm

Latest INTEL IDT* 92xx Audio Driver :

As much as I wish a clean install of Windows 7 would help... Reconfiguring all the garbage this laptop comes with I fear would be an absolute nightmare.. It's one of those "rugged" machines designed for the Army & cops.. I love the fact that I can throw it around but obviously the drawback is I can't just wipe it like I have in the past.
